Kidney transplant

Long shot but has anyone here had a Kidney transplant ?

fraid not. my brother lost a kidney and my sis in laww had a double lung transplant tho.. done in newcastle apparently..

Double lung transplant is a big job.

When I was in Hospital, there was a chap there having the whole lot transplanted - Heart, Lungs, Kidney, Liver and I believe. the Spleen. Over 12 hours to do and I would imagine, a sizeable scar.

A friend had a liver transplant when he was young. The scar looks like a peace sign and covers most of his torso.

yeah she was ill for some time but remarkably is now amazingly pert... doing well, although there is a limited time span apparently. but she doesnt have to be dragging oxygen behind her now. great to see.

that guy must have been cut to pieces..

actually i nearly had a burst spleen when younger.. finished my footy playing for good; fortunately it didnt burst but it took years to recover

Good news about the lung transplant. There is usually a time limit but it is very variable and hopefully many years.

I'm pleased that my scar is barely visible, even though I know where it is. The stitches were internal and the skin was joined with glue. A couple of the others in with me at the time, had rows of staples, for some reason. Maybe because they were younger and had muscles, they needed something more robust ?

I worked with a lad in Kwikfit Gateshead, who had a kidney transplant...his name was Dave Sanderson, if I remember correctly.....or he may even have had 2...He liked a drink, which did him no good what so ever, he told me he would be crawling the floor at times gasping for breath...My memory is a bit foggy...it is a long long time ago..that may have been something to do with anti rejection drugs..I'm sure though when he laid off the beer and took his meds, he was fine...didn't stop him grafting..he was a top fitter and a good grafter...canny lad too...

Yes, last August. The op went well it's all that's come after I have questions about. I believe the majority of my problems are medication related but it's not easy asking the Consultants when I go to the Clinic as they are extremely busy.

Yes the rejection meds all cause some issues, some worse than others. but can be altered if you're suffering. You just have to speak to them really I think.

All the meds have side effects and as I am taking a shed load, they interact with each other in unpredictable ways.

As an example, I was taking a pill to make me wee and also a BP Alpha Blocker. I did Google these and found that the two are similar drugs and spoke to my GP about it. I was getting up 7 - 8 times/night but now I'm off the 'wee' drug I only get up twice now..:carrot:

I am at the x'plant clinic tomorrow and will explain my woes to the Consultant.

im up that amount lol.. but its just coz im a bit buggered:lol: can be every hr; max 2 hrs. its annoying but you get used to it after a while and its better than not peeing for me..

Saw one of the transplant surgeons today and they will start me on a different immunosuppressant I'm 4 weeks, after my next appointment. He seems quite positive about it but I'm a bit nervous.

good news dave.. yes there are lots of options and all do a good job im told. some suit different folk better than others apparently.

and yes its a pain but you get used to it

I have several Hospital appts over the next two weeks, so the plan now is to swap one of my immunosuppressants when I next go to the clinic in 4 weeks. Hopefully this will help.

Wouldn't it have been easier to transplant his brain into another body?

Sadly not an option on the NHS.
