Nice DAC this with 4x WM8740 chips. Big toroidal tx and top quality caps as you can see so a very good power supply. Very smooth sound.

Sounds great and I've had it in my system for a long time now, but I've been going through a few upgrades and a spring clearout means I have to move it on.

The USB input is not full 24/192, I'm not sure what it is but it played red book rips perfectly.

Please note the upgraded Burson opamps are not included I'll put the originals back in. The DAC was quite smooth and laid back with the original op amps, but you don't need to spend much on them to liven it up if you'd prefer to (though the "analogue" sound signature was very nice I have to say, it just didn't suit my new speakers).

Looking for £125 collected from N London or postage at buyer's cost and risk.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210424/da2e126748afb540c1c23bd2f89a793a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210424/b24e07404ee9aa5c33d6783a8bb02720.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210424/2eb0df78af6e6caa0a44b1b4c62076bb.jpg

Someone asked me what it sounds like, which is a fair question! When I bought it I could have sworn it was NOS so I had to Google online to check (it wasn't).

It's smooth and relaxed sounding, more like a nice glass of Bordeaux at the end of a long day at work, than chucking on some banging tunes while you get ready for a night out. Does that help??

Sale on hold as I've ordered a couple of sets of opamps to have a play around. It's a bit like rolling valves in a fancy valve dac [emoji16]

OPA134s installed and sounding very nice. Sale still on hold awaiting second set but likely to be withdrawn as I've struggled to find a natural sounding DAC like this, especially at the price. Walks all over my old Audiolab Mdac for example.

Withdrawn now, definitely don't need the other opamps to decide [emoji16]

Definitely withdrawn now, no need to wait for the other opamps to know it's a keeper [emoji16]

Hi Lawrence. Which of the components in the DAC are op amps, I guess at the big red things :)

Are they really plug and play like a valve, and can you give the part numbers of the ones you have used, both standard and improved, so I can read up about them?
My summary of what you have written is that the op amps fitted originally are what's included in the sale. Is this right?

Hi Chris there are a few types which don't work so well in all applications eg. AD797 can oscillate but apparently they have been tried successfully in this DAC according to DIY audio. I'll dig out the original op amps and look at the type I'm currently using. I've changed them in a few devices and found a change in sound. The originals are included at the "new" price.

The DAC is currently doing sterling work in my headphone system connected to a raspberry pi via the USB input. I bought a THX AAA amp to try with my Monoprice planars and needed a separate dac to use it.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220622/95500d83e9d4f2388678d352812fb056.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220622/829ec7eac265308421ce9dbeced9790f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220622/ff8e7642f2cecb931fa1b8643782b731.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220622/5495dee985b7ea28a17a04375becc18c.jpg

I've found the original op amps and they are... also OPA134s!

I'm convinced the new ones I bought from Mouser sound better, I wonder if the original stock set are not genuine...

Anyway, it's sounding even better with a USB to SPDIF converter between and my Liz Zen streamer, it really is a nice DAC.

The WM8740 is also a highly regarded chip, check it out online. And this has 4 of them!!! Must be the only DAC that does. Arcam used 2 in theirs.

And look at that transformer and the capacitors. This is a serious piece of kit!!

It's just not quite as good as my Audio Gd DAC, that cost 3x more than I'm asking.
