So, I love my CD player but there's one thing about it that absolutely drives me mad.
It's not a major issue but it gets me every time.

When I open the drawer the display says ADD DISC. Really ? Great idea, thanks for the input.

Anyone else's kit have an infuriating/patronising trait ?

The only thing that I can think of is in my second system. When the Arcam amplifier is switched on, the display reads 'Arcam Integrated Amplifier' whilst it runs through its checks.

Why? I know what it is. It has a huge volume control with the word 'Volume' written next to it, so it's obvious it's an amplifier of some description.

However, it is possible to personalise the message so I may have to do some 'twiddling'. :D

Ha. You've reminded me. I used to have an Arcam and you're right. You could scroll through the alphabet letter by letter and rename inputs etc.
Took flippin' forever.

LEAVE ME ALONE !!! was the message I set for the housemate to find. Amongst others........

lol - I have an XTZ amp that does the same thing. Just in case you think you've switched on the immersion heater or something instead.

Batman got round the problem by having printed signs attached to all his kit. Probably a better system actually since he didn't need to switch things on to see what they were.

Well there you are then, the message is a good job.

You wouldn’t want to leave the immersion heater on by accident.

I can rename the inputs on my preamp but I honestly can’t be bothered

True, but I do that anyway. Far too often.

I don't like equipment that starts up with 'Welcome' either. Just go straight to the function, I want to play a DVD not have a bonding session.

It's a bit weird, machines trying to communicate. Sort of like HAL in 2001. Today it's 'Welcome', the next thing you know it's refusing to open the pod bay doors.

My Blu-ray player says ‘Hello’ on its display when you switch it on, and ‘Goodbye’ when you switch it off.

Annoys the tits off me.

One evening in early '87, when my older daughter was a baby, i was listening to my newly-bought copy of miles Davis "Tutu" while my daughter slept in her pram behind me. I had left the immersion heater on, which unbeknown to me had developed a faulty thermostat. The water just got hotter and hotter until the whole thing boiled over like an overfilled kettle.

I blame Miles for not hearing the steady drip-drip of water onto my daughter's pram, though I quickly became aware of the gallon or so of (thankfully cold) water that came down into the pram when the ceiling wallpaper finally gave up :( Now the baby's crying, I'll have to turn the music off - don't you hate it when something interrupts your listening pleasure?

Might explain why she's grown up not liking jazz much.

I used to have a microwave oven/grill that when it had done it's job, the display would read "Please enjoy your meal".

A friend of mine had an amplifier (can't remember the make), that when switched to 'Mute' the indicator LED would change colour, just in case you hadn't noticed the lack of sound!

I'm not sure if I even appreciate the scrolling track title display that one of my CD players has. I know what the CD is, and I can read the title of the tracks by looking at the packaging.

My old Musical Fidelity Electra E100 had a red LED in the volume knob which turned amber when on mute. So I could tell at a glance that I hadn't gone deaf.

The full title on release was Mary Poppins - The Job Interview, Anal In Amsterdam. It's a prequel.

I read it as 'Canal In Amsterdam'

I thought 'oh that's nice.'

Don't get your hopes up, Emily Blunt's not in that one.

The canals are lovely there, but so were the adventures on my trip in 2019 with a very liberal girl.

Eighteen years earlier and Macca would've been interested in seeing the movie.

I've just been the once, and the weather was great. Agree about the cyclists though. My mate bought "something for the road" in a coffee shop. I'm sure it was partly responsible for him crashing his Harley in Luxembourg the next day. Before the police turned up the cheeky bugger handed it to me "for safekeeping" :(

I've just re-read my comment and I'm horrified at how it looks. This was meant to be a 2001 movie reference.
Huge apologies to Macca, and anyone who took it a different way. I'm very sorry.
