Bit chilly here too, about 4C, sun coming out. And set to be this way for next couple of weeks. At least it's not wet and windy.

Brilliant, quite envious. I miss the excitement of egg hunts now that the "girls" are older - however, with a bit of luck will have it again in a couple of years time.

I reckon Eater egg hunts are something for posh folk and southerners :D Up here our tradition is to roll your eggs down the hill on Avenham Park. Chase them down the hill, wipe the dog shit off, and you're good to go :)

Errr, lovely.
Never had egg hunts or egg rolling where I'm from. You got a couple of eggs, ideally with chocolate buttons, a mini chocolate bar or mini flake inside. You scoffed the lot immediately and moved on. That was Easter.
rmcin626
03-04-2021, 08:55
Another dry day, only 5c so far
The downside to Easter was that there was a lot of church.
At school you'd have a class mass some time in the week, about 40 minutes. Then a school mass on the last day before the holidays (about three hours). Then mass with the family on Good Friday (at least an hour) and then another one on the Sunday (again about an hour).

Errr, lovely.
I wouldn't go so far as to to call it lovely, but it probably helped to build up kid's resistance to germs. Shame really about the demise of white dog shit, which contrasted nicely against the brown-ness of the chocolate. All you can do now is sniff at the egg first :(
At one of my suppliers yesterday, I asked a young lad in there if he was going to roll his eggs on Avenham park - he looked at me like I wasn't right in the head, then told me he'd probably roll them down the stairs at home. Kids today eh, bone idle buggers the lot of em...
There's probably an egg-rolling game on the X-Box, rolling them down the stairs is only for the poor kids who can't afford video consoles.

You're more likely to see joint rolling around here.
The two things aren't mutually exclusive though.

The two things aren't mutually exclusive though.
Certainly aren't, but for safety's sake should be done in the correct order:
1. roll eggs down stairs
2. roll joint
3. smoke joint
4. eat eggs
5. go to corner shop for more eggs.
6. leave corner shop with loads of things, get home and realise that you forgot the eggs.
7. decide to have another joint

9. drink good whisky at home and just enjoy life.. the pub is full of nutters anyways;)

Very civic-minded, and I agree, litterers are scum of the earth :(
I used to live in a terraced house, which together with next door formed an 'internal' corner. And when it was windy we had a vortex under our lounge window. It looked like that final bit of "The Crystal Maze" where the contestants grab as many tickets as they can in that glass box. All the street's litter ended up under our window after the wind dropped, so we'd be out there filling our bin. Never any help from next door though, lazy bag-heads :steam:

That was always great fun as a kid, although I also loved painting the eggs my mum had boiled with my own designs at school:)

I've given myself another day off as I worked on Good Friday. I would have liked to get out on the Fireblade as it is now serviced, road legal and ready to go (although I'm still too fat for my leather pants). But the garden thermometer keeps saying three degrees every time I check :( And I'm not riding in those temperatures, I'm past all that nonsense.
I'm impressed you only ate one.
It was one of the kids birthdays and due to a clerical error (on the part of the cake people) two birthday cakes were delivered so I had to help dispose of some of that and leave room for the takeaway we had later.

went down the optician - closed on a Saturday. Typical. You'd think after so long with enforced closure they'd open 7 days a week for a bit, just shows you how much cutter opticians make.

Are you sure the sign said closed? How far away were you standing? You should have gone to Specsavers :)
lol - it wasn't like an episode of Mr Magoo. Not that bad yet.

My eyesight is still ok too, it's my hearing that's fooked. But I need bins for reading if not in natural light. And my A-Z in the van is history.
In 1990 I decided that my struggling to read road signs until I was on top of them at night or in the rain meant it was time for an eye test. Ended up with a pair of Reactolite Rapide gigs. I like the idea of glasses that turned into sunglasses when the sun comes out. So naive. They always had a bit of a tint which looked shit. And the lenses were so heavy, 5 minutes wearing put painful dents on the sides of my nose. So I stopped wearing them, and never had an eye test since.

Looking at last night's forecast, your part of the country looked to be the warmest in Britain. That's your summer done, all downhill from here :D

Been out in the garden doing a 'Trump'.
Gonna be a cracker today - sun splitting the skies already... Should be good for 16/17C later!

Well at least it's mild enough to have windows open. Which is just as well as I've been rubbing down a large radiator for painting and there's loads of dust. It's taking bloody ages, using belt sander, flap sander, disc sander and just plain old elbow grease! There are several layers of rock hard old paint and I don't want to use stripper.
was fabulous here this morning but clouded over now.

That is a proper hat, I wish I could get away with wearing it, but...
Did you ever see the film "The Man With Two Brains"? There is a scene where where Steve Martin's character has Ann Uhh-melmehey's brain in a jar, and he puts a hat and some wax lips on the jar so he has something to kiss? That's what I look like in a hat

Really nice up here right now, though not toasty. Just been watering plants - if it stays dry longer the water butts will run out - that's a complete surprise.
I had new water butts put in 2 x 100 litres, and I was amazed that they filled up in just one or two days. Not that I'm hoping for rain - quite the opposite.
We've got space for another butt or two, so might put more in.
Cheers, mate. We wish you were here, too! The princess would spoil you:)

Can actually see those trees from my back garden. When the LCC built the estate I live on they left little patches of the original woodland here and there (and there's a large country park nearby where the 'big house' used to be), I tell people that even though Harold Hill is in greater London it's semi rural ;)

It's been fairly cool unless directly in the sun.
It was a bit chilly in the shade while I chopped a dead 40" telly into wheelie-bin sized pieces with my angle grinder for recycling, seemed less bother than booking to use the tip. I smell of hot plastic now! :D

I'm cutting the grass as I write - or rather my robot agent is. Got it out from its winter hibernation, and it now seems to be working OK again after an initial hiccup.
Have had to put up protective barriers (wooden sleepers and bricks) for the daffodils in the lawn, which still haven't flowered.
Getting the timing right between flowering bulbs in the lawn and the grass going wild seems almost impossible.
I was hoping the flowers would have come out earlier, so the mower could just go everywhere.
Nice day so far - very sunny.

Been out in the garden today too. Weeding the patio, watering the beds and a quick pop down to B&Q to grab some compost (soil a bit sandy in this garden). Looking very tidy, one more bed to sort out tomorrow.
Been a lovely day.
Another beautiful day today. Went for a long walk and on my return washed the car. Later did a bit of 'gardening' (weeding).

Been a lovely day for clocking up unnecessary miles in my van. Drove 20 miles to fit a door. Upon arrival I noticed I'd forgotten the door panel, so another 40 miles to go back for it. After finishing the job I got home to find I'd left my phone at the job, so another 40 mile round trip. I think my brain works better in colder weather :( Maybe I'll just stay in the garden tomorrow
0730 and the sun is already cracking the flags.
cloudy start but sun is peeking through now... only 3c but a high of 12c expected
Been out for a walk along the river, not been down there before. Lots of massive willow trees. Saw a duck, although it wasn't doing much.
The sun is very warm but the wind is cold and quite strong.
ducks eh? dont know they are born...;)
