View Full Version : Rothwell Indus passive pre with mm phono
Bought last summer, this is a very good (stepped attenuator) passive pre-amp, with integral mm phonostage.
Serviced by Andrew Rothwell in June 2020 (service doc provided) and in full working order.
The phonostage is different to the current Rothwell Simplex mm phonostage, using a higher quality transistor implementation (better matching) and a separate power supply.
Rothwell will convert it to mc operation for a minimum charge, but the mm phonostage is a good 'un.
Worked extremely well with both a Radford valve amp and ProArt solid state amps.
Good-looking and compact bit of kit, built to a high standard.
For sale at £475, incl. UK delivery.

Pictures don't really show very well, but the case is shiny black acrylic, with nicely bevelled chamfered edges on the front plate ... rather classy imo.
I've been really impressed with the performance of this since I got it. I've long been a fan of Rothwell products, and this one is one of their best.
As mentioned above, I used it with both Radford and ProArt amps, where it proved to be one of the most transparent passive pre-amps I've owned. The phono section is also a class above most 'budget' offerings.
Only selling due to a wholesale change to balanced gear.
Open to sensible offers.
In case anyone was wondering, the lowest 'sensible offer' I'd accept is £395 incl. UK delivery .... although I would take more if you insist :D
It's a nice bit of kit ...
Still available and still wonderful.
Perfect with Radfords, Leaks and other high sensitivity vintage power amps.

I had one of these years ago and loved it. Totally transparent and had no issues driving various power amplifiers.
If only I needed another one!

Agreed, Kev.
I paid £500 for it, and thought it well worth that sort of outlay
IMO, at the price I'm asking, it's a proper bargain and won't disappoint.
I used the mm phonostage with a SUT for mc cartridges, but Andrew Rothwell can easily and cheaply convert it back to mc phonostage if needed.
Nice bit of kit. It's also surprisingly compact.
Mid-October bump.
Excellent passive pre-amp (stepped attenuator) with 2 outputs, 5 line inputs, tape in/out plus very decent mm phonostage.
Looks good, too ...
2000th anniversary :D

It's Christmas. Why not treat yourself?
Been a while, so maybe a quick review.
It's a genuine (hand-built) stepped attenuator 'passive' pre-amp, with a very decent moving magnet phonostage incorporated (powered by a separate power supply unit - a relatively heavy transformer unit).
The line stepped attenuator is, I believe, the same as the one in the current version http://www.rothwellaudioproducts.co.uk/html/indus_se.html
As a previous owner wrote above, it is very transparent ... the best passive pre I've tried/heard.
The mm phonotsge incorporates high quality transistors, and I can vouch is a league above the likes of the usual NAD and Musical Fidelity stand-alone phonostages.
I paid £80 for Andrew Rothwell to convert it from mc to mm, and have no reason to believe that it'd be any more to convert back again.
Reduced price £350 incl. UK delivey
PM me if any questions.
Happy to demonstrate.
Whoops, forgot that I had this advertised.
Surplus to my requirements so not being used ... anyone got a use for it?
It's rather good ... open to sensible offers.
