ALLO Boss DAC - Worth It?

Hi all,
My current raspberry pi setup consists of a Justboom Digi pHAT going into their standalone DAC. Is it worth purchasing an ALLO Boss Mini DAC to go on the rpi rather than using my current setup?

Never heard the Justboom Digi but have both the Allo Boss and Katana.

The Boss is very good for the money but worth investing in separate power supplies for the RPI & Boss.

I had the RPi 3 with Allo Boss DAC HAT and it was very good but I have sold this on and now use a JustBoom Dac with LPSU and I prefer this. The Allo Boss was good but maybe a tad bass heavy for my liking.

Now I'm thinking.... should I depart with my beloved Katana (both opamp cards) and my BOSS and go for the Rev. (Already got the Shanti)......[emoji848]

Many thanks for your kind words. Well... In my opinion the Rev is superior. And it's more flexible.

The ability to change settings on the fly with the remote control is really great too.

I've always preferred just the pi going into a stand alone mains powered DAC via USB or a USB to SPDIF converter. The cheap Chinese Topping ones are what you want.

I've a Pi3B and I bought a Topping D10S recently it's excellent with the Pi, £99 delivered from Amazon.

The D10s can be used as a USB to SPDIF converter BTW.

I have a Boss 2. I've tested Moode, DietPi AlloGUI, and Volumio. Volumio sadly does not yet fully support this DAC and only has Air Play 1. Moode is okay but for my use the DietPi and Allo GUI is awesome.

previously owned a Pi 4 with BOSS DAC v1.2, although I appreciate that the v2 is now out which I have no experience of.
purchased a Schiit Modi 3 and connected to the Pi by USB and preferred the overall SQ (USB to Schiit) when compared to the BOSS 1.2. I would not disagree with a previous comment about it seeming a little bassy.
Have since moved on to a Schiit Modius DAC and an ALLO Digione Signature HAT. The jump in overall SQ has been significant to the point that I have no intention of making any changes to the streamer in the foreseeable future.
Oh, and only today an ALLO Nirvana PSU turned up which I now have connected.
PS just noticed that the original question was posted several months ago so the OP may well be sorted by now.

Personally I can't fathom how a DAC could be bassy. What do the specs show?
