Over at a mate of a mate's house yesterday to sit in on band practice... and rather than get in the way I took my self out and was offered a cuppa and a chance to sit in the den whilst the guys were practicing.

Fukcin' hell....never knew the guy was into his hifi!

Big airy room, leather sofas looking out into massive landscaped garden, couple of beers...full Sonos system hooked up to a Primare I30 (with matching CD player) and Montor Audio GS60 speakers.

Left to my own devices for an hour or so it was amazing to hear familiar music played through an "invisible" life-size soundstage..best system I've ever heard-period.

Bruce Springsteen Nebraska album I played start to finish..incredible.
so much more on this album than id ever heard before...very raw and real.
Amazing.

Then it was sitting out in the garden for a cuppa with Neil Young playing out the french windows...even listening like this it was so obvious this was some amazing sounding hifi..so realistic and "life size"sounding.

I want one!! :eek:

Yes great when you get a system that makes music so real.....its usually a bit of journey getting there though

No you can do it quite cheap
some good tripath amps or spud amp open baffle kit etc need not be silly money
My speakers cost 1200 to make including 2 sub plate amps (one for each bass driver) my dac 250 I use a laptop and big valve power amp but the power amp is overkill on my system some might argue 2 sub plate amos is overkill too
I could easily use a Spud

It does take a bit of a journey to reach your nirvana but as John says it needn't be massively expensive. The GS60 speakers would not be my preference, even though they are good. We all have own own view about the aspects of a performance we want to listen to, if you prioritise these you can decide of the types of components you need. Number One for me is 3D image and soundstage so I've chosen speakers that are ideal for this. Of course the system has to do all other aspects well too, anything that's poor would standout.

BTW, the room is part of the system too.
