Hello Puffin,

Blimey, I haven't received one of these for years:lol: I just assumed I had fallen out of favour:eek:

Well I am now the same age as my knees...Clickety Click.

My birthday is on the 16th March, close to yours. A (relatively) expensive DAC for me. Hope you got more than the usual socks Rob.

Many happy returns from the old codgers club.

Jerry

Mines just been and my mum's is coming, our puppy's is the day after that. I treated myself to a new DAC the other day, I'll call that my present [emoji2]

Thanks Jerry and Lawrence. I had a text today from the DWP to say that my state pension is on the way! Hopefully it will buy me a few pairs of socks:lol:

I was looking at getting a new Dac as things have moved on in the last few years. I fancy an ESS Sabre based one. What will I then do with the 8 other Dacs:)

Haha,
Knowing you Rob, I bet you are thinking about a kit one?
It does appear to be one area where advances have been made. I have gone for a Denafrips, lots of positive reviews. Had a sabre dac but it left me a bit cold-preferred my old Beresford.

I have just finished making a "breathed on" Gainclone based on the LM3886 chips. It's only been 14 years in the making! I bought the boards in 2006 in a group buy on Diyaudio and populated the boards with some components I had already and then realised that to get the max out of the circuit I needed to buy boutique style fancy caps and resistors. At that point I lost interest and other stuff got in the way. Fast forward to "The World According to Covid" and in Sept thought about getting it finished. I resisted (did you see what I did there) the advice to get fancy and overpriced parts and got good quality workaday stuff from RS and others.

I have only just finished it and it don't sound too shabby. I have a few flavours of Gainclones and this may be the best....time will tell. A couple of pics should appear. And yes I have been looking at some Sabre based boards to make my own.

Thanks. The enclosure was mega expensive!...£7 from "The Works" I think they are meant for artists brushes or pencils etc.
