Quite some time ago I seem to remember, KK wrote (probably after a CES or some such) about Ed Meitner's turntable (the one with barely a platter to be seen) and then in his column, asked for readers to volunteer to do an experiment & then to report back. The test was carried out by placing a record onto the points of three upturned drawing pins placed around the spindle in the label area. There was also a suggestion of using bubbles cut from bubble wrap instead of the pins.
....this is all from memory so I may just be imagining it.........

Does anyone remember this & do they know if anything became of it?
I have copies of the magazines concerned, but they're not accessible at the moment.

Cheers

I remember something about this from many years ago. The suggestion was to use bubbles from bubble wrap under a record, cartridge mounting etc. This must be from at least 15 to 20 years ago. I can't remember which magazine though...it might have been HiFi Answers or possibly News.

Chris tell me which magazine and year you remember it from and if I have it I will dig it out and have a look.

Neil,
It was KK for sure, so it would have been HFN and yes it was a lo-oooooo-ng time ago!
I remember the original article quite clearly, but can't recall ever seeing any results published.

When was it? I haven't a clue even which decade it was! One of the months sometime between 1986 - 2006 is about as close I can get to pinning down the actual issue!!!!

This is the turntable that inspired the discussion.

Umm okay.

I will have a look. My HiFi News issues are fairly easy to get to.

Neil,
Don't trouble yourself. It'll wait till I can get at mine. I just wondered whether anyone could remember it.
Thanks a lot for the thought, though.
Cheers

Ask Mark (Ynwoan), as he has an elaborate version of the "mat" on his deck...
