Whats your most irritating noise or interference when you trying to listen to your music.
I currently have two on the go at the same time. The better half has the tumble dryer going in the other room which is bearable but does put vibration through the floor. I normally have the back door open when its above 70C which does let in some traffic noise but normally more than manageable. However today some B'stard has been running a band saw, grinder or something similar since 9.30am and still going at 4:30pm and its driving me mad:mental: even with the door shut.
Wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't trying to get the measure of my new Orbe Turntable and DL304 Cartridge.
Anyway whats your irritant.
The only thing I ever really notice in the summer is lawnmowers/strimmers/hedge trimmers etc, though tumble drier or washing machine equally annoying...

Tumble Dryer now finished but the grinder is still grinding away !!.
Door now shut and enjoying What's Going on to be followed by a bit of Donny Hathaway and then a thrash Who.

They annoy me because they make me feel guilty in reminding me I should go out and cut my own grass (it doesn't deserve the title 'lawn')!

let's see....
The people downstairs screaming and throwing things at each other...
and the guy upstairs singing (and I use the term loosely) constantly.
Neighbour has been banging a hammer for 3 hours now :steam:
I have headache. They have been installing a kitchen and doing lots of other diy for 12 months now so this is a regular thing.:donk:

Our son in full vocal flow when he can't complete one of his online or DS games and when he and the better half moan about the music I play. The air goes blue, I get peed off and the system goes off. I end up listening on headphones..

Other than that I think I'm probably the biggest irritant round here, I've currently got The Isley Brothers entertaining the neighbourhood ;)

Traffic for the most part and the asshole in the flat above us...plays the bongos along with his weird music.

Not me i feel so guilty playing music through speaker thinking the neighbours might just hear so i very very rarely do it & when i do it's quiet back ground moosik..Headphones a go go..

My Sennheiser HD600s leak as much noise as my speakers ! :scratch:

My whole house sits over 4 car ports.
One of my neighbors whole trunk is a subwoofer box full of 4 15 inch subs and 4x 1000 watts RMS anps driveing them.and 1 amp 100 X4 driveing the rest of the cars interior.
He has an extra drycell battery on an isolator and 5 big 1uf capacitors.
Sad he listens to mexican music with lots of tubas.
Its basicly a bass box on 4 wheels.
I don't really care unless he cranks that ungodly thing under my house.
That is the most annoying sound in the world.
My tumble dryer makes an annoying deep thrum throughout the house. I compensate with the volume control...

I compensate with the volume control...
I find that to be the most effective solution to many annoyances.
Especiallly as the builders next door are using petrol disc cutters to cut stone and concrete.

buzzing/humming mains transformers, cooling fans, whirring CD drives, anything like that. I don't keep gear that has any of these issues.
Exterminated for this Marantz SA11, T&A V10 amplifier, nearly got rid of my Yamaha HD1300 because of noise but putting it behind my speakers solved this issue as I can't hear it any more.
My Marantz SA7 is a bit noisy when playing SACDs but placing it on the bottom shelf solved that.

:lol:our now long deceased budgie loved certain albums...anything with high pitched sound. Used to have many a laugh at his antics..his racket didn't realy bother us that much in fact when he died we missed him for ages.
I always found Budgie pretty irritating as well! :) Whatever happened to them? :scratch:

The US Air Force flying F-15 Eagles very low over the Vale of Pickering in North Yorkshire. That pisses me off when I am trying to create an atmosphere with the hi-fi.
I forgot one - the wife nagging me to help with the housework/take the bins out/cut the grass etc... :lol:

Thats what I go tonight, do the bins and take the re-cycling round to recycling area.
All I wanted to do was to test!! Aa brand new copy of Easy All Stars Dub side of the moon on coloured vinyl I picked up off a chap on another forum. Will manage before I go to bed but not at the correct volume level :-(

Just to put the record straight it was actually a jack hammer but it was doing the same trick a while back :( He was busting a load of concrete (right next to my garage which is built onto my house) to put in new drainage for his kitchen extension & the vibrations were rattling stuff in here. Luckily it only lasted a few days over a weekend :)
Other than that the old boys with there boom rattle bass bins in cars parking outside to go to the off license over the road :rolleyes: No too often thankfully..

Heathrow appears to be having a take off path our over North West London tonight. Happens occasionally but it would be when I finally managed to fettle my new S/H Orbe and DL304 cart. Managed to get the bounce right, a solid but temporary solution to VTA issues and corrected a alignment mistake with the cart. Been having a 60's and 70's day with Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll and lots of Can, Amon Duul ii etc. Also a bit of OK Computer and Spirit of Eden.
Sorry to go off topic-ish my posting.

The Telly, TV, Box, Goggle Tube, Idiot Machine, Haunted Goldfish Bowl... call it what you will. Get halfway through an album and you've got some twit walking in wanting to watch "Come Dine with Big Brother's Dancing X Factor."
Also, slightly off topic, anyone turning MY music down/off while I'm LISTENING to it, as if it's some sort of take-it-or-leave-it thing. How would they like it if I kept turning the telly down when David Chuffing Attenborough was on? He whispers far too much anyway.
Anyone would think I was getting grumpy...

+1, and helicopters and aircraft, as I live somewhat near an Air Force base in southern Illinois (Scott Air Force Base).

Two things: a.) the noise that the tap in the kitchen sink makes when turned on, and b.) the noise that the electric toothbrush makes when my wife is brushing her teeth -- it tends to pierce through the sound, no matter how high the volume.
my Virgin Media V+ box spinning up the hard drive every 20 mins
I hate computer type noises in my sitting room and that would drive me mad - as did my older Sky+ box's hard disk. Luckily the one in my Sky HD box is silent.

I'm with you on that one, even though the damn thing is at the other end of the house. For some reason it's not acceptable to close the doors in between :scratch:
I put some squares of Sorbothene sheet under the feet. Aaaah, that's better.
At the moment it's the racket of our cats shagging! They seem to like an open fire, saucer of cream and a little Maxwell accompaniment....:fence:

Great idea! For some reason my tumble dryer creates a deep resonant vibration that permeates the house. I shall try the sorbothane trick.
The most irritating noise when I'm trying to listen?...that's easy....seems everytime I get into a really good session my Bullmastiff decides it's time to visit the kitchen (which is over my man-cave) and drags his big lumbering feet all over the ceramic tile floor sending the most irritating soundwaves into my proximity. :steam:
If he wasn't the goofiest and most lovable dog I'd banish him to the back yard!!

I listen at night... on headphones a lot of the time, and it's pretty much to be expected that one of the kids will wake around 10pm and start grumbling! It might sound a bit harsh to name that on a thread like this, but what is even more annoying is when I think I hear them, because I'm waiting for it, and it's actually in my head. Very frustrating!

Glad I'm not the only one Nick! We love the little blighter, but it is lovely to have your own time when she's in bed, and my favourite time is often when the missus goes to bed around 10 and I get an our or two for some music. Unlike you though I dare not use headphones as the wrath from my wife being woken up before I get upstairs to sooth little one is even worse than being disturbed in the first place!

My two terriers have a habit of play-fighting when I'm trying to listen to music. It sounds like a whole loaf of vocal gremlins and is a tad distracting, but somehow cute nevertheless!

well for me it's the thin glass panel above the door into my lounge, any real bass gets it rattling and it bugs to shit out of me.
It's on my list to either throw a hammer through or refit it after xmas, either way it IS going to stop:steam:
I remember having to put a blob of blue-tack under every lamp holder of both chandeliers in my previous room to stop them all rattling in sympathy with the bass.
I must admit that the sound of my ribcage vibrating, as the earthquake-inducing bass from the Tannoys rearranges my insides, is a tad irritating :eyebrows:

Hmm, you need French Romantic organ music for real bass, i.e. the notes you can feel rather than hear. Try some Widor for proper writing of deep pedal notes and enjoy. Hint: you may need some stonking bass drivers and power in abundance to do it justice ;)
Unfortunately MartinT my listening environment can’t handle the bass I’ve got let alone any more. The place starts to self dismantle at 45Hz and30 watts and I have to leave the room :eek:
Sure, I can get stomach punch bass but not in this room, all I get is the rooms vibrations. Extremely irritating :steam:
Oh arr, then the central heating boiler starts up in sympathy.
But hey, the speakers are great; just need a decent room to put them in, and a better amp to drive them
Now there’s an interesting £200,000 upgrade; Hi Fi room with house attached.
I'll bear your recommendation in mind though ;)

I'm sure it's not a realy low frequency but the bass riff in the middle of 'the chain' by fleetwood mac gets my windows shakin or it may be i just like it belting out:eek:
It's not really a very deep note, Mike, but the DVD-A of Rumours that I have does make The Chain sound quite superb and the beat of those notes do create a fabulous subterranean feel to the famous Grand Prix section.

I've got it on twin cd, then i coppied it onto my pc, have you noticed the compression though just after the lead guittar kicks in during the instrumental, thats the only slight critisism i have for that track, on my copy anyway, it may be different on dvd?
Yes, I hear the compression which I think is worst on the vocals which precede the bass intro.

For me, the most annoying noise in the listening room is the radiator hissing. We have a very old home with oil-fired steam heating and when it's coming up strong, the air valve gets noisy
