I always thought spring started on the 21st (spring equinox). Anyway sunny and a bit chilly here all day.

Meteorological Spring is always start 1st March. That's the one I go by not some random date picked from looking at the entrails of pigeons whilst on drugs.

it technically be on 19th to 21st. its when the sun is level with the equator and the earth is not tilted to or away from sun. october one is usually about 22nd or 23rd in north. it changes due to the yearly cycle.
or so i was told lol

If you insist that spring starts on the 1st I'm fine with that, but don't be dissing the drugs man :(
colder today with cloud. 3c but supposed to improve
sunny but chilly.
gets colder going into the week and the sun disappears too. Only early March though so you can't expect too much especially up here in the hills.

Cold here too, not had any rain at all for a few days now, which is unusual.

According to the BEEB we were supposed to have some sunny spells this morning but it didn't happen. It's been thick cloud and cold all day.
The lawns have just had their first cut and looking good.
yeah, no sun appeared here either. but up to 4/5c

Yes, it's been 5c here all day.
Remember last weekend when we were in T-shirt and shorts ?
lol no, I don't!
T shirts are still 4 months away here at least. As for shorts, just no.
I don't even wear shorts when in the Caribbean, not going to do it here. Just totally unnecessary.

i wear them when its warm now, but didnt when younger. now its what i feel like, and if i want to wear a suit jacket with them, i will:ner:
Except for playing sport I've not worn them since I left primary school in 1980. They were compulsory there, all year round.

We had to in primary school too, and I remember when we came indoors on a winter's day, and we all had a peculiar kind of mottling on our legs, which we called corned beef legs. Never seen it since.

Yes I remember that too. Might have been the onset of frostbite. They would kick us out in any weather except rain but it doesn't rain on bitterly cold days.
Nowadays there'd be prosecutions of course.
corned beef legs :lolsign: up her at least it was something women got by sitting too close the fire:)
Pigmy Pony
05-03-2021, 18:52
It's coming back to me now, I used to get that sitting close to the fire. My nan used to call me the Fire King. Apparently I would chuck anything within reach onto the fire. Once I threw my mum's friend's rates money on the fire. It was equivalent to about a grand in today's money. My dad worked a lot of Saturdays to pay that back
the other problem with shorts was vinyl car seats. Second degree burns on a sunny day. Plus 'British Leyland Dimple Pattern #5' on the back of your legs for the rest of the day.
Remember when my Dad got a new Cortina with the velour seats. What a relief that was. Always looked on velour favourably since then. It's due a comeback.

I want to do some gardening but it just isn't fun.

Humidity is very low. Living room usually around 55%, today 45%. Kitchen usually around 75% now 62%.
Just boil some veg, that'll sort it.
I'm sure it will have been discussed before, but how important is humidity to us? I can imagine too dry would be bad for folk with breathing difficulties, but high humidity? I don't know.
I think once you are down into low 40s it can be bad, give you sore throat and that. Over 90 and it starts to feel uncomfortably clammy, especially if the temp is high. And you start getting mould and mildew appearing.
Driest place I ever went was Nevada. Just checked and humidity there is currently 21%
Right now in my living room 44%. So maybe nothing to worry about yet.
Temperature go up a couple of degrees from Tuesday on. Hopefully that will be the last of the freezing cold for this year.
42% here so ok.. it can go lower but ive a humidifier for that

I've got a theory about that - with the current travel restrictions (no more than 5 miles from home) folks are staying at home weekends. Instead they are getting out and about on weekdays, where they can mingle with those travelling for work. Hiding in plain sight so to speak. Explains why weekday traffic (and especially rush hour) is as bad as it ever was.

Made worse by possibly having something to look forward to (some light at the end of the tunnel). And the months will drag on when not punctuated by anything interesting.
Could be.
I'm in a side-street but it does get used as a rat-run in the day, maybe 2 cars a minute go by.
Last few weekends have been as quiet as a Bank Holiday Sunday. If I walk up a few hundred yards to the main road through the town that is pretty constant traffic even now. The only time that was quiet was during first lockdown.

I've got plenty to do. Business has been hectic since two weeks into the first lockdown and we have a large garden. It's just so much better doing even paperwork and e-mailing when the Sun is shining.
Actually it's not been too bad today and the Sun is shining now through fine clouds. Cheers me up.

Glad to hear that business has been er, busy :) Long may it continue. But when I said nothing interesting happening I was meaning holidays, day trips out, eating out and proper get-togethers with friends and family, and pursuing interests that happen outside the confines of our house and garden.
I too have been mad busy for almost a year now and I am thankful for that. But the prospect of some normality this summer is making these days seem to drag on forever. But yes some nice weather to sit out in will definitely help :)

Gotcha. Yes, the lack of holidays and meals out has been a pain but hopefully soon, we can eat at a restaurant, outdoors. Also looking forward to some family gatherings and bbq's in the garden. We have a lot to make up for.

The general work of fiction known as BBC Weather suggests we might have glimpses of sun from lunchtime to tea time. Could rain this morning - but fairly low probability, and doesn't look like it currently.
Later should fairly definitely be dry. Currently can't see more than a couple of miles. It shouldn't be too cold if you consider 8-10 degrees OK. Oh - I just spotted some patches of blue sky amonst the clouds.
Potentially a lot better than some other days.
duller today and warmer. 7c but looks like rain

It hadn't re-established itself yet when I went out at lunchtime, don't think the rain was heavy enough or been going on long enough at that point.
Suspect it will be back by the time I go down to the shop to get a can later on though.
The pond is back. Not at it's full munificence yet, where it blocks the whole road, but it's getting there.

Windy at the moment, was lots of rain & high winds overnight. Sun has gone in and the clouds are building up, just under 13C currently.
Sunny here but also raining and blowing a gale. Pretty typical for March.
If it wasn't for the wind, which is bitter, it would be quite mild.
Bloody wind, just had to clear this

Not too bad, it was mostly dead so a lot of it could be snapped up. Put all the twiggy bits in the garden waste bin & sawed the bigger branches & main trunk (about 10 inches) into manageable lengths & piled them on the side until I have chance to get to the tip (or forget about them, whichever comes first...).
torrential rain here right now, I have to go out down the shop too.
The pond was already massive at lunchtime, it should be right across the road again by now.

I'd probably move up there if it wasn't for my other half and her local commitments, with what I could get for my place I'd get a decent detached bungalow and some change.
Move up here and you could get a decent detached mansion and some change.

Your local BBC area is pretty large I guess. Ours covers the whole Midlands, can't tell me it's going to be the same weather here 500 foot up as it is 100 miles away at sea level.
I always check the Met Office website for my postcode. Not always right but right enough of the time to be worthwhile.
yeah met office is one i use. its usually at least close.

Because they're the BBC. Always wrong about everything. :D
been a bit crap here today. Sun tried to come out and failed and it's still really chilly.
This time last year was basking in the sun and it was about 15c

East of England, so fairly large but even so, they don't often get it right. I can understand when I watch the national News and weather, that various areas will be different, North of England v Cornwall etc but this is in the same ballpark.
Also, the BBC and Met Office are often completely opposites. All those millions on computers and you can't rely on them.
Local variations in weather do happen though. not that unusual. Miro-climate effects due to topology, rain shadows, proximity to sea or large lakes and so on.
'A' level Geography was a long time ago...

More use than the BBC and Met Office put together.

A rather cool 4C and hazy but bright. I think rain is forecast though.
Rained heavily overnight, first rain in a week. Looks like it might brighten up a bit now.
Dry and bright, although light showers forecast for later
been a coldish dull day; now with a Scots haar...

Not a bad day, lot of warm sunshine. T shirt weather, but no sign of a tan. I am, as Gene Hunt (Life on Mars) would say, white as a ginger bird's arse.

Been nice here too, was about 19C. Perfectly comfortable teeshirt weather.
was sunny here and milder than it has been but nothing like t shirt weather. Gets properly warm on Wednesday though. Then back to cold for the holiday.
Lol, I've been wearing t-shirts (and occasionally shorts) for about the last two months!:D
All you 'coldies' - I don't know....;)
Was a really nice day here today, spent most of it in the garden and washing the car. Tomorrow the weather will be proper nice, so will take Del out somewhere, either beach bound or up to Snowdonia:cool:
Marco.
cloudy but 12c.. still a strongish breeze

Same as yesterday, hazy sunshine and warm.

Yup, same here, although things improve over the next few days:)
It's funny though, if you're not going anywhere, and just monging about the house all day, which I presume you are (although correct me if I'm wrong), what REAL difference does the weather make?:D;)
Marco.

Marco.
I would love to spend all day monging about the house but at the moment I still have a full time job so I spend all day doing that instead.
Except lunchtime when I usually nip down the shop or the market.
So it makes a difference to that.
Sun has come out now though.

Ah yes, I forgot about that!:D
Ok then, it applies on your days off, when you actually *do* mong about the house...;)
Seriously though, if I didn't have a garden to enjoy or generally didn't go anywhere, I wouldn't really care what the weather was like:)
Marco.
The weather's part of the 'atmosphere' of the day. I mean I don't mind a bit of rain or whatever, as long as it's doing something interesting. It's those dull overcast days where it does nothing that get me down sometimes.
It's good to look out the window and see a bit of sunshine even if you're not going out anywhere. Or if you have to go to the shop or whatever it's pleasant for once. It's bitterly cold for more than half the year up here you know.

Thought it was supposed to be getting colder?

Yes and no, in terms of temps. I think tomorrow and Sunday will be as good as it gets (around 14C), but it'll be brighter and sunnier, certainly than it's been here today, before it all goes tits up (and *properly* cold) on Monday!:)

Looks like you're going to be 5 or 6 degrees warmer where you are over the weekend anyway.
Got to help with an easter egg hunt on Monday, don't think the eggs will be very well hidden :D
Lol they may end up hidden sleet or snow! So if you're going, you'll probably need to wrap up well:)
Marco.
