The Constellation Inspiration Preamp 1.0 is a simple looking, no frills, bulky pre-amplifier. The casing is built using thin, flat, nontextured slabs of CNC-milled aluminium supported by a steel chassis. The front of the Inspiration 1.0 Pre, like its more expensive brother, stays true to the simple design. On it are just a Balance and a Volume knob, between them is a touchscreen. All three are mounted on an aluminium faceplate.
The Inspiration Preamp 1.0 touchscreen is easily read from across a room and is very responsive to touch.
The remote-control handset itself is a well-built, minimalist design matching in with the Preamp 1.0. Made from solid aluminium that feels chunky in the hand, a well laid out remote control.
The rear panel of the Preamp 1.0, like the front of the amp, is a model of simplicity: As you look directly at the rear panel, two recesses can be seen one on the left-hand side and one on the right, these respectively corresponding to the right and left channels.
At the far left and right are three balanced XLR inputs, and directly below them three RCA inputs; toward the centre of the panel are two balanced XLR outputs, below them two RCA outputs. Below the recesses, you will find USB Type B (for control), and trigger inputs, and at lower right of the amplifier you will find the mains input.
The Constellation Inspiration Preamp 1.0 is a full dual mono construction. The Inspiration line stage's left and right audio channels have their own isolated, separate power supplies, each channel with its own low-noise R-core transformer. The preamp circuits and even the input and output jacks are arranged with the left channel components on the left side and the right-channel components on the right side. This arrangement delivers extraordinary channel separation, resulting in spectacular sound stage.
