Hi guys I've just bought a Raspberry PI 3B v2 which has an onboard Dac and frankly sounds very good going into the CD input my amp via the headphone out in the PI but I think I USB dac would be worth experimenting with so I'm looking for something like a Topping D10 or D10S or similar I can buy the D10s from Amazon delivered for £99 but would much rather pay less for a second hand version if someone wants to move anything one.

Ideally I only want to spend about £50 plus postage otherwise I'll buy something new up to about £100 however I don't mind pushing the budget for something decent.

I'm in Glasgow re postage.

Thanks

Tony

My suggestion would be a Schiit Modi 3 if you can find one but doubt it would be under £100

Thanks Russell, I'm listening right now to the PI via my amp and I'm actually amazed at how good it sounds, the files are CD rips (Flac), I paid £55 posted for this thing, astonishing.

I'm wondering how much better a cheap Dac will sound, the guy I bought the PI from said the onboard Dac wasn't up to much which is why I'm thinking about something like the D10S or similar.

I've listened to the cheaper Chinese style DAC's and whilst they are very good for their money, I still think you can't beat the Schiit in terms of value.

Yes you'll pay a bit more however I think it would be worth it but saying that some of the 'better' Topping's or SMSL's etc are a decent step up in sound quality over the entry level offerings also.

The Khadas Tone Board is very well suited to the RPi as well and is within budget:

I've got the stand alone version of this DAC Tony and it's very good indeed https://www.justboom.co/product-category/raspberry-pi-audio-boards/

Unfortunately the stand alone DAC doesn't have a USB input .

I think that my brother's going to sell his Shiit Modi3 dac as he's using a Peachtree Decco2 that has a DAC built-in.

It's absolutely mint & boxed. Not had that much use too.

I think he's after £100 including postage

If that's of interest I can get in touch.

Hi guys, I'm definitely leaning towards the topping D10s, the Modi seems to be excellent for the price but the D10s has a digital display plus you can use it as USB>SPDIF convertor so you can connect it to another dac so unless someone has one they want to move on I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a new sliver one from Amazon.

Thanks.
