Started a moaning thread elsewhere here a couple of weeks or so ago about the scandalous price of racks (the thread went ballistic shortly thereafter).

Still had zero joy in finding anything suitable, so please let me know if you're planning to move anything on.

I'm willing to entertain the idea of glass or wooden shelves (although I'd lean towards wood more, if only for the aesthetic value), as I have read differing opinions on the virtues of each material. Modular would be nice, but the lack of same would not be a deal-breaker. My only stipulation is that it has six levels.

Probably a futile quest, but you never know.

Budget of £350-400.

Possibly not quite what you have in mind, but I have an Atacama Equinox that I'm looking to move on - it's only got 4 shelves, but it is modular, so you could potentially buy another pair of shelves on the bay - it would also be a long way below your budget... drop me a PM if interested MH

edited with apologies to the OP - somehow managed to count the turntable wall shelf as one of the shelves

+1 for the Equinox..a marvelous rack...robust and great isolation...and there's nothing to stop you getting custom made wood shelves for it..should you feel the need..

+2 for the Equinox - I'm really happy with mine. If you say, were to buy Macklows, you could quite easily buy an extra shelf, which could either be bought new or find a used shelf. There's one on Ebay right now for £99. Plenty of 2nd hand Equinox shelves knocking about

I have a 7 level rack that I will be moving on in a short while. It is made out of 10mm thick toughened smoked glass and it weighs a ton. The uprights are made from threaded bar so the nuts are infinitely adjustable to whatever distance you want - the main reason why I like it. Self 7 is actually on the floor at the bottom so it is only useful for storing odds and ends.

There is no way I would even consider shipping it, as when I say "it ways a ton" I am not joking!

I use chrome steel shelving that you can buy in various widths, heights and depths. Just set the height gaps as you wish. Relatively cheap compared to rip off 'proper hifi' stuff.

That's very striking...would be totally out of place for me, mind, but striking
all the same.
