Thorens TD 160 tone arm

I have a thorens td 160 and was wondering which tone arm I have.it looks slightly curved down near the head shell. Most pictures I see the tone arm looks straight. I have owned this table for 35 years and I know it was like that new.any help is appreciated…

not on the Mk.1 its fixed

The arm is bent, or at least the socket is on the tube crooked.

The pillar can be raised slightly at the back and the cueing lever adjusted accordingly. I suggest you look out for another Thorens arm on ebay. they go for not much and can be adjusted and re-wired to significant advantage.

P.S. On Vinyl-Engine, I believe there's an article about re-wiring a TP16 tonearm. The socket can be removed and re-attached to the pipe. Good luck.

thanks for the replies......that’s the strange thing this turntable arm was never damaged. I bought two of them new and they are both the same angle. Just can't find info on the tone arm.maybe an e-mail to thorens is in order

I remember the later one with removable "wand" had a down-at-back attitude deliberately, but I'm sure the detachable shell one like yours wasn't like this.

if you search back through my threads you will find a lot of info that dave (dsjr) and others gave me on tweaking it ... very usfull and they worked

I reckon from long distant memories that the deck has been transported with headshell in place and using the original packing, which pressed the headshell down.......

Off the arm that is, you don't wanna knacker the arm bearings. If it's the shell id try source another ;)

It's the less than ideal headshell mount. You can bend it to almost any angle you choose.
