Used one very similar to this one in a previous system.

Not the cheapest but uses high quality components. I had the version which outputs to coaxial and is spec'd to actually output up to 384KHz/24-bit. It looks like the Toslink version is 'limited' 192KHz/24-bit, if that's of any importance to you. I never had the means to test if it could indeed output any DSD files over coax though. But it worked perfectly for my needs at the time.

I was planning on listing an Audio Gd convertor soon, I should dig it out and get the details.

Depends what you call reasonably priced but there is a used Matrix Audio X-SPDIF 2 available on ebay which are £385 new.

Might be worth an offer?

Most opticals are 24/96. Not enough bandwidth to do dsd either afaik.

What is your source? A computer? If so check if the motherboard has a spdif header. If so just stick with spdif (coax) all the way. I did that on one system (directly wiring a coax cable to the header) and was surprised how good the SQ was. But probably will vary on the quality of the motherboard (possible high jitter on low quality motherboards).

To save directly wiring to the header you can use something like this (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333871348691?).

In terms of a usb > spdif converter I've always liked how the MF V-Link 192 does things.

+1 for MF V-link, although I moved mine on for Gustad U something...

edit U12, can't see one for sale, but they do pop up.

It would certainly suit I think Lawrence, let me know when its up for sale.:)Will try and dig it out tonight! I think I paid about £80 for it a few years ago and it's been put away since as it wasn't compatible with my Liv Zen (about 8yr old Linux). Worked perfectly with my laptop at the time and sounded great, so I knew it was working.

This is the one will get you some pics shortly. What system will you be using it on? I think W10 is driverless but can check later if you want to know.

I am going to use it with a MAC so no driver needed. What power supply do you use?

Here it is. Forgot it's also an SPDIF reclocker, so rather useful for improving the sound of non USB devices too.

I remember being very impressed with the SQ from my laptop, but as the Liv Zen Vortexbox software was too old to be compatible, and I can't with work out how to update it (if possible), I couldn't use it. Should have used it as a CD reclocker but don't think I noticed it did that at the time, doh!

Also has BNC out if you need it. It's a rather nice thing really, I've always liked Audio Gd gear (have got a dac in my main system and it's not going anywhere!).

I can do it for £80 plus postage, and I can try it with my W10 laptop later if you like.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210206/64fcb31ce9713f224f3f43458ffb71c0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210206/e9ae4a3474079f7a23807ba4f1d6e24d.jpg

PM when you have thought of a price.:)

I'm after £80 plus postage, can split the postage though. Audio Gd stuff is known to compete with gear double or more the price!

Looks interesting. Every re-clocker I've tried has had a beneficial effect to a greater or lesser degree.

Hope it works out Geoff. It will be working with a very humble DAC indeed but I have already had amazing results from it but can only access it via Toslink.

I sometimes use a Monarchy Audio DIP 48/96 with the 507 and that works very well.

As a result of some very fair concerns with compatibility, we've agreed to cancel the sale. Funnily enough I listed it on eBay yesterday morning and it sold within 10 minutes to someone who wants to use it as a reclocker, so it's all ended well (for me at least!).

James, did you sort this? Apparently a Topping D10s can be used as usb/spdf bridge.

I havent sorted anything Gary but that is an interesting observation on the D10. I have shelved the idea for a while but may return to it in future.

Cheers

I have an XMOS asyncronous USB to SPDIF converter. I got it as it allows me to stream the Mac mini into the DAC whilst allowing the DAC to use its vastly superior clock. Cost £60 and made a huge improvement to the sound.

Amazon. It's absolutely superb, and beer money too.

Here ya go (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GYWTY4Y?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share")

USB powered so doesn't need a separate PSU, and it does DSD (384KHz) too.

I've not had any complaints from the buyer of mine off eBay, so hope he's happy. I might try one of these myself but it says out of stock.
