For sale is my treasured Denon DP80 turntable in a custom slate plinth with Jelco 10" tonearm and a veritable smorgasbord of accessories.
Uber rare and mint.

I bought the DP80 from a wammer in December 2008, it belonged to his late brother who was a hoarder of Japanese high-end equipment. The DP80 was NOS when I bought it and given the cosmetic condition of the unit, it was obvious and I had no reason to doubt Keith's word. It's very doubtful that you will find a better example of this superb deck for sale in europe, the only DP80 for sale of late was a motor unit only that was in scruffy condition from australia.

18 months later and the unit is still in pristine 'as new' condition, beautifully free running bearing that will spin ‘till the cows come home. I recently persuaded Richard of Vantage Audio to come to my house and professionally service the deck at no inconsiderable cost to myself, however it was wasted funds on my part - The service came and went and the dp80 passed with flying colours as I imagined it would, I was keen however to get the bearing re-greased...it was, although it didn’t actually require it. This unit is now 30 years old, but has seen little use in the last 18 months and is now good to go for another 30 at least. I have the paperwork to evidence this work.

This is a stunning deck in a unique configuration. Iconic quirky UFO looks. With it’s bullet proof build and relative youth will outperform and outlast the ubiquitous 'long in the tooth' ex-broadcast SP10 mk2’s available these days.

Has a number of impressive specifications and unique features including:

Split (leaf sprung) platter design to minimise resonance only seen on the the DP80 and the mothership DP100.
Wow / flutter - Below 0.008(0.015/0.02) %w.rms
Noise / signal ratio - 80dB
Variable or fixed platter speed controls.

Forget the nonsense written about this deck regarding the chassis ringing like a bell, it never did ring and it never will, as I have filled the underside of the rim with Densodamp…just in case!

The custom slate plinth was produced to my spec by a company in North Wales and comprises a substantial slab of finest welsh slate with an attractive grain, polished faces and rounded corners. At 10cm deep this is seriously heavy and will require a decent rack / stand to support it, 4 superpods and 4 high density neoprene feet will be supplied. The bottom of the plinth has 4 M8 threaded cabinet inserts ready to accommodate spikes, or any other adjustable footers you may want to use. The motor unit is solidly secured to the slate using threaded inserts and hex bolts.

Also comes with a nice removable plinth surround in solid oak.

The tonearm is a Jelco SA-750E – 10” S-shape arm with optional fluid damping. This is a superb tonearm with an effective mass of 21g and will suit many cartridge types. The arm comes with the upgrade heavy counterweight as seen on the 12” model, this gives greater flexibility and improves the sonic performance by allowing the mass to be brought close to the pivot point, when the weight is reversed and put on backwards.

Townshend Isolda DCT300 tonearm cable, this is a superb interconnect and probably the best value tc available, isolda tech is perfect for preserving delicate low level signals and works a treat with the tonearm.

Funk firm 5mm acromat, I peeled the sticker of this, as i wanted a minimal look but it is a genuine funk product.

Should you want to use another arm on the plinth the hole can easily be filled with polyfilla or other compound and prepared for re-drilling.

In addition I have a MintLP best tractor alignment tool that was developed specifically for this tonearm, and allows precise alignment, more info here. This cost £90 inc delivery from Japan . Note: I will not be including the magnifying glass and Lupe however.

I also have a plinth template drawn on a sheet of card, so all the resources exist to facilitate a new plinth project.

So, to re-cap ...included with the DP80...

Original Denon step down transformer
Townshend Isolda DCT300 tonearm cable
Funk firm 5mm acromat - platter mat
User manual and brochure.
Original ‘stock’ high quality rubber platter mat
Slate plinth with 4 superpod footers
Oak plinth case
Michell Unicover dust cover.
Jelco SA-750e tonearm with damping oil
Linn 3 point arm mounting plate.
MintLP best tractor alignment tool
Plinth template

Caveats:
The record puck is not included in the sale.
The Best tractor does not include the magnifying glass and Lupe.
The original box is not included, although a suitable alternative will be provided.
No shipping / postage offered on this... it’s way too heavy, please don’t ask. I would urge collection (South wales NP4), although I am willing to drive and meet up.
I'm not interested in splitting any items up at the moment as it will go on ebay first, and splitting up will be the last resort.

£1500.

Selling because I need the money, nuff said.

I would be interested in a p/x deal against an ipod classic / ipod digital transport / dac combo.

Thanks for looking.

You are mad. Don't you have any spare relatives or a kidney or something you could sell instead? I fear in 5 years time you'll look back and think "why!" but if needs must, good luck with the sale. I would love to own it but unfortunately both my Grannies are long since gone...

:wow: What a thing of beauty! It's almost a shame to surround it in wood, imo the whole lot looks better with that beautiful slate plinth :exactly:

Someone will soon be incredibly happy, on that i have no doubt :)

Yeah, the wood box didn't really work that well, with it's square corners, so I reverted back to bare slate.
