It didn't rain today, I was grateful. Rest of the week looks wet though, when the **** is it gonna stop raining!!! If I had a few quid I'd piss off to Spain, this country is pants.

Yes, dozens of times but not the Groundhog day bit. Actually, it's Groundhog day to day, the 2nd February.
At the mo it's cloudy but the Sun is struggling through and not so cold.

Been a lovely sunny morning with barely a cloud in the sky. Now the rain clouds are rolling in and I believe we are having 5 - 10cm of snow tomorrow and a week of
1 -2c temperatures. Luvverly.

Dreading Sunday onwards. Predicted up to 15cm of snow and then a week of 1 - 2c temperatures to keep the ice hanging around.
yes we have forecasts for 4/5 days of snow showers and temps around freezing. not great; Feb up here is often a bad month. Think east coast will be worse hit but time will tell. has been 6ft snow drifts up north
Forecast says max of 1c here for all of next week, and snow before the weekend.
grey and drizzle here - depending on forecaster snow by 23.00, but I think the ground is too warm and wet for it to settle.

I got up at about 04.00 (for a wee:)) and no sign of snow. Dog woke me at about 07.30 (for her wee) and we were greeted by a winter wonderland - looks like I was wrong about the ground being too warm and wet for snow to settle.
Very fine stuff, but continuous.

Pretty chilly now at under 2C. Sky is a wintry grey and looks just right for snow. Set to remain cold this week!

About 2" of snow so far - interesting that the road through the village hasn't been gritted (normally loads of grit/salt all over the place at the slightest suggestion of frost), it made me wonder whether there has been a policy decision to not grit as people shouldn't be going out anyway :scratch:

Had fine snow on and off for an hour or two. It's cold enough for it to settle if it gets going properly!
About 1C down here, but vaguely sunny.
Went for a bike-ride down the seafront at 9 o'clock. 2 Jumpers and hat and gloves!
Didn't see any swimmers. :lol:
But lots of joggers.
Good news is the yellow crocuses have popped up.

Yup. Only emergency services, council vehicles and doctors are expected to crash.

You'd be surprised. Local authorities take winter road treatment and snow clearing seriously. When conditions are iffy, they are in 24hr close liaison with weather centres and make judgements based on ongoing advice. I know the score, I was at the sharp end organising it all!
Maybe at the Council you worked for but they are not all the same. Here they have always been a total shambles.

Not really any weather here today. Uniformly grey sky, not much breeze, no rain. I think it's gathering its strength for the big one.

Had a Woodpecker, the black, white and red Robbie, on one of the seed feeders on Saturday. At first I couldn't work out what it was, thought it might be two birds but it was a beautiful Woodpecker. He was there for five minutes or so and half emptied the feeder.

Thanks, I wondered which it was. See him occasionally but more often, the green one.
The green Woodpecker, often breeds nearby because we usually have Mum, Dad and babies feeding on the lawn. They push their beaks into the grass, making a hole and I suppose, waiting for ants to climb their beak.

Was 4" yesterday (just wait for the comments :o) but a little bit of melting - as you say it is quite wet, very muddy underfoot on dog walk so quite treacherous.

Miserable dusting of pathetic snow down here overnight but, christ, it’s bloody cold! -1 degC but with a “feels like” value of -3.
Still, could be worse. Ursula’s colleagues in New Jersey are currently enjoying -6 degC and had 30 inches of snow the night before last!

No snow during the night as was threatened by the BBC.
Today it must be a touch above 0c as it is melting slowly and now the Sun has appeared..:smoking:
Trying to snow here but it isn't making much of a fist of it. There are black clouds and brilliant sunshine and there's some real warmth in the sun.
Forecast says it is going to have another go at it overnight.
Must be below zero as the (now seemingly permanent) flood pond at the end of the street is still frozen over. Bit of a bite in the wind but we've had worse.

Tia, although not sure if it was her original name. We got her ten years ago from RSPCA and I have a suspicion that they rename rescue dogs.

Despite the Met Office forecast, I managed a bit of gardening and even sat on my favourite bench having a cup of Tea in my shirtsleeves. Was supposedly a 96% chance of Snow through most of today..:doh:
Seriously cold tonight. I had to do an hours bike-riding for me Jab.
I was shaking like a leaf when I got to the surgery. Fingers were frozen, bike had a strange steering fault. Glasses steamed up with facemask.
-2C and a wicked East Wind. Still, kills the insects on the fruit trees AFAIK.
Congrats to everyone helping the little birds out with some seeds and nuts!
I'll see what I have in the cupboard myself tomorrow. Do they like chocolate peanuts? :lol:

I'm all prepared for it this week: bottom half - undercrackers then thermal long johns then work pants. Top half - thermal long sleeve then t shirt then sweatshirt then fleecy hoodie. Woolly hat, and a pair of 'magic gloves' from pound shop with fingers cut off.
Bring it on! Unless I get snowed in :) In which case I'm well prepared with Netflix, Prime and lots of records :)
I am pretty sure I've still got my Norwegian Black Thermals. They worked at an eye-watering -15C. Made me look like a big Daddy Longlegs.
It's all about layers, and avoid cotton which gets damp.
Might dig them out tomorrow for some essential exercise. :lol:

Mission accomplished. Two Bird feeders installed in their hour of need. Very fond of Little Wrens, Tits and Robins. Less keen on stylish but shallow Magpies. But respect Dark Crows who have extraordinary intelligence.

This afternoon has been nice and sunny but really cold. I could sit outside in the Sun yesterday but far too cold today.
Just been in the kitchen to cook my tea and my breath was fogging - been years since that last happened, winter of 2010/2011 I think it was. That was when the toothpaste froze in the tube.
-3 here now. might not get a lot colder as its cloudy
Down to - 5c now. Just at temp where it feels colder indoors. Any lower and the heating seems to come on more. Odd that. Last night it was much colder yet warmer indoors.

Just as crap as the February weather is the BBC's weather app. Currently says that in Chorley we have a gentle breeze, it's been saying that since this morning, just before neighbours fence panel blew out. I Also had to pick up our wheely bin which had blown over.

No good, the huge puddle froze over then of course people started driving through it and smashed the ice into little bits, so now it's just a small pile of (very dirty) icy chunks in the gutter.
Don't worry though, 9 hours of continual rain forecast for later so it will soon be back to its usual road-blocking self.

Sick of being housebound by this cold windy weather, i went outside to empty the crap from my van in readiness for the week ahead. It took me ten seconds to chuck a metre of toughened glass into the skip, which subsequently exploded, and 20 minutes to sweep the crumbs of broken glass off the drive. :(
Temps supposed to be a bit warmer today, my throbbing/numb fingers think otherwise.

I had to go to Mass with the family every Sunday and all the Holy Days, plus Mass once a week at school in the school chapel, plus the school end of term Masses that would last about 3 hours.

Funny, I’m the other way round . Rampant atheist with no respect for any religious institutions at all, but I find a mass quite soothing on the rare occasions when I get dragged along.

That's what we had at school with a big, red-faced Irish priest.

Who knows, mate. However, many things in life that are good aren't always exciting!;)
Not that we lead particularly busy or stressful lives, but as many folks these days do, they enjoy some time (an hour or so, which is the duration of your average mass these days) to chill and have some peaceful and quiet reflection, which is probably what Adam's referring to:)
We go to church partly for that reason, but mainly because we believe in God, and our Catholic faith is a massive part of lives and how we've been brought up. However, we wouldn't dream of preaching to others or judging them for their alternative beliefs, and actually have more friends who are protestants or atheists, than Catholics!

What a nightmare... Sounds rather like the 'Wee Frees', more commonly known as Scottish Presbyterian. Totally NOT our thing at all - and if that was what a Catholic mass was like, we'd run a mile!!
Catholic masses are serene and reflective affairs, and if the priest has a good personality, often humorous.

Had to go to the dentist, and being such a nice day, walked into town and back again after the appointment.

It's been mainly Sun today with a light breeze. I managed a couple of hours weeding and tidying the borders.
we had next to nothing of sun but it is mild out. Birds were singing too, not had that for a while.
Gets a bit colder again here next few days. Nothing drastic though. Only a few more days now and we're out of the woods. March can be a bit wet here but it's rarely stupid cold.
a bit cooler today at 6c and although fairly bright, its overcast too with occasional bits of sunshine.

I'd concrete that garden over if I was you. Save a load of hassle. Leave a bit of hard standing and cover the rest in those aluminium sheds. Practical and almost totally maintenance free.

lol I know you'd never do it. I probably would though. Or I'd just let the grass grow into a meadow. You could do that with just a section of it. Say 15 foot by 10. Just don't mow it, you get wildflowers and butterflies and all sorts in it. The cats will love it too. Perfect time of year to start it.

We love it - well Del still prefers shopping:eyebrows: But she likes the garden looking nice too, and more importantly this year working more for us, so we can become more self-sufficient, so raised beds, bigger veg patch, a chicken run and a stone-built pizza oven, will be introduced, along with Del's plans for 'her' patio/bar and hot-tub area, to share with her mates.
If I'm lucky, I'll get to sort the choons and the cocktails!:D

February is finally on it's way out, and leaving me with a lot of warm sunshine, after a chilly start. Shame I can think of bugger all to do with it. Can't take the Pony express out for a run, so my "fit into my bike leathers" diet is losing momentum :( Time for a bacon butty with HP sauce.
