It didn't rain today, I was grateful. Rest of the week looks wet though, when the **** is it gonna stop raining!!! If I had a few quid I'd piss off to Spain, this country is pants.

Yes, dozens of times but not the Groundhog day bit. Actually, it's Groundhog day to day, the 2nd February.

At the mo it's cloudy but the Sun is struggling through and not so cold.

Third day of February but the fifth or sixth day here of grey, damp, mizzly dreariness.

Getting fed up with this now. February is supposed to be a relief after the misery of January but now we’ve got no Audiojumble, no Bristol Hi-Fi Show and no sign of any blue in the sky.

It’s enough to drive a fella to drink! Or just walk, actually, as I’m working from home in the dining room and the booze cabinet is only a few feet away...

1c and strong easterly up to 35mph.. sleet and then heavy snow forcast.

10C at the moment. I was about to take the mutt out, but it's started raining. Give it another six weeks or so and people will start moaning about the heat :).

Macca

1 week of Feb done, another 3 and we are out of the woods.

hifi_dave
06-02-2021, 11:21
Dreading Sunday onwards. Predicted up to 15cm of snow and then a week of 1 - 2c temperatures to keep the ice hanging around.

struth
06-02-2021, 11:27
yes we have forecasts for 4/5 days of snow showers and temps around freezing. not great; Feb up here is often a bad month. Think east coast will be worse hit but time will tell. has been 6ft snow drifts up north

Macca

I got up at about 04.00 (for a wee:)) and no sign of snow. Dog woke me at about 07.30 (for her wee) and we were greeted by a winter wonderland - looks like I was wrong about the ground being too warm and wet for snow to settle.

Very fine stuff, but continuous.

About 2" of snow so far - interesting that the road through the village hasn't been gritted (normally loads of grit/salt all over the place at the slightest suggestion of frost), it made me wonder whether there has been a policy decision to not grit as people shouldn't be going out anyway

About 1C down here, but vaguely sunny.

nope, just incompetence. We had no gritting for the first lot of snow and ice here, despite it being forecast, It's like Councils forget that winter comes round every year. They get up in the morning, look out at the winter wonderland and go 'Oh yeah! Gritting! I knew there was something we were supposed to do.'

You'd be surprised. Local authorities take winter road treatment and snow clearing seriously. When conditions are iffy, they are in 24hr close liaison with weather centres and make judgements based on ongoing advice. I know the score, I was at the sharp end organising it all!

Macca

We have around 3/4 inch, which is more than enough for me. It looks lovely out of the windows but not so much to disrupt things.

Never seen so many birds on the feeders. Must be hungry and the word has gone round.

walpurgis
08-02-2021, 11:29
The light snow covering and frost are frozen hard on the ground. I expect to see a bashed up car or two up the road, the drivers around here haven't got a clue about slippery icy conditions. Happens every time!

Had a Woodpecker, the black, white and red Robbie, on one of the seed feeders on Saturday. At first I couldn't work out what it was, thought it might be two birds but it was a beautiful Woodpecker. He was there for five minutes or so and half emptied the feeder.

Thanks, I wondered which it was. See him occasionally but more often, the green one.

The green Woodpecker, often breeds nearby because we usually have Mum, Dad and babies feeding on the lawn. They push their beaks into the grass, making a hole and I suppose, waiting for ants to climb their beak.

Trying to snow here but it isn't making much of a fist of it. There are black clouds and brilliant sunshine and there's some real warmth in the sun.

Forecast says it is going to have another go at it overnight.

Must be below zero as the (now seemingly permanent) flood pond at the end of the street is still frozen over. Bit of a bite in the wind but we've had worse.

Blue skies, sunny and snow started to melt a little first thing this morning. Now clouded over and light snow again - some brilliant icicles in the garden, thanks to the slight melt.

I put some warm water in the bird bath and fat balls on one of my garden obelisks, so far a Robin (very seasonal look) and a couple of couple of "great tits" have take advantage of my generosity

No good, the huge puddle froze over then of course people started driving through it and smashed the ice into little bits, so now it's just a small pile of (very dirty) icy chunks in the gutter.

Funny, I’m the other way round . Rampant atheist with no respect for any religious institutions at all, but I find a mass quite soothing on the rare occasions when I get dragged along.

Although not ones in Ireland where they are invariably on the hellfire, brimstone and “you’re all evil sinners who are going to hell” end of the spectrum, which does get a bit tedious.

Macca
17-02-2021, 16:12
That's what we had at school with a big, red-faced Irish priest.

Not been to Ireland in 30 odd years but seem to recall that only the women and children actually went into the church, the men stayed outside smoking and talking.

Who knows, mate. However, many things in life that are good aren't always exciting!;)

Not that we lead particularly busy or stressful lives, but as many folks these days do, they enjoy some time (an hour or so, which is the duration of your average mass these days) to chill and have some peaceful and quiet reflection, which is probably what Adam's referring to:)

We go to church partly for that reason, but mainly because we believe in God, and our Catholic faith is a massive part of lives and how we've been brought up. However, we wouldn't dream of preaching to others or judging them for their alternative beliefs, and actually have more friends who are protestants or atheists, than Catholics!

What a nightmare... Sounds rather like the 'Wee Frees', more commonly known as Scottish Presbyterian. Totally NOT our thing at all - and if that was what a Catholic mass was like, we'd run a mile!!

Catholic masses are serene and reflective affairs, and if the priest has a good personality, often humorous.

just kneel on the wife, why buy a spongy mat:scratch:

Just empty your wallet, and put half of the contents under each knee... That should be plenty 'spongy';)

Those sponge things or even a old seat pad are the business. Trouble now is if I get down, I stay down

Foggy here this morning. Quite thick too. Visibility about 100 yards.

No fog here, just frost, but now disappearing... Bright sunshine and blue skies, set to get up to another heady 12C. I was out in a t-shirt yesterday, and will be doing the same again today:)

set to be 9c and sunny when the fog clears. Although according to the Met Office report for this area it's sunny now and there is no fog.

Goof job they weren't that crap during the Battle Of Britain.

Weather is more diverse nowadays; that fog (as you call it) may identify as a light mist or a sunny day awaiting reassignment :)

You're right, I'm being insensitive and not considering the adversity and the struggle that's an inherent part of life for any type of weather.

I'll report myself for awareness training immediately.

yeah and that sun i had has been become aware of its insensitivity to people who burn and realigned itself into the cloudbase

Not here, blazing sun and clear blue skies. Do you think I can claim compensation?

Lol - she just decided to expose her legs to the sun for the first time since last summer, so the skirt was short enough to 'facilitate' that:lol:

From The Godfather:

Sonny: How's Paulie?

Clemenza: Oh, Paulie... won't see him no more.

Same as the clock in my car. That's always left on summer time (hard to believe I've had the car for seven years).

February is finally on it's way out, and leaving me with a lot of warm sunshine, after a chilly start. Shame I can think of bugger all to do with it. Can't take the Pony express out for a run, so my "fit into my bike leathers" diet is losing momentum :( Time for a bacon butty with HP sauce.

I think we should change the thread to 'gorgeous weather for February'. Been blummin' lovely here!

Saying that it is March tomorrow anyway.
