Hi, looking for one of these for a second system. Must be in full working order; no laser or tray issues at all, please. One that has been serviced recently would be ideal. To be posted to Suffolk. Many thanks in advance.

Still looking. Any leads, apart from eBay?

It’s very good of you to take the time to look. Thank you. The SE model seems to have dried up at the moment. I’m hoping one turns up or somebody finds a good example lying around. These things are worth the wait. Not overly familiar with the CD85. Nice looking thing, though.

The 85 is a vastly superior machine to the 52, in terms of build and (in my view) sound. I've had both.
In the 52 sort of price range, I'd also have a look at a CD60SE. These are TDA1541A based like the 85.

The other way to see the CD85 is a "budget" CD94, which is one of the best CD players ever made (at least in MK2 guise)

Interesting. Same mechanism as a CD52, I believe. Would need to check the drawer wheel and belt were in full working order.

The CD85 is a significantly different mech to the CD 52. The 85 used a CDM1.2 where as the CD 52 uses the much more common (and cheaper) CDM4. The CDM4 was used in most philips and Marantz players made around the time of the CD52. It's still a very good and reliable mech. I wouldn't get hung up on the drawer belt. They are readily available and easy to fit.

Here's one, serviced, boxed with remote, but it is a LOT of money.

I owned one a long time ago. I bought the CD63 MKII SE to replace it and it sounded TME better although what the difference was, I cannot remember.

Thanks. Useful to know. I know the CDM4 drawer wheels and belts were very flaky.

Thanks. Yes, I saw that. I’m sure he’s done a good job but that price is very optimistic.

I've seen them come up on Gumtree occasionally for about £50. Often with remote but never boxed.

+1 Geoff is spot on, TDA1541A based DACs are far more superior than the 52 range...I know I've had them...Look for a Rotel RCD-855 and you won't look back...Great for Lamping!

They're not really. I've had to replace a couple but they are nothing like as bad as the CDM 9 where the motor drives against the cog at the end of travel. Cogs on CDM9s are a consumable!

I’ll keep my eyes open but I’m investigating Philips players at the moment.
