Anybody owned both, who can give an opinion on the differences please?

I have always found a read through the Audio Science Forum worthwhile if Im in the market for anything from the far east.
I have a few pieces of Topping gear but not the specifics you are looking for.
I understand they were originally Little Dot who produced lo cost CD players. The reliability of the LD CDP I had was not good but the latest units I have have been fine. Not sure about back up repair if needed - all the way back to China ?

What other DACs have you used Gary?

I have a D70 which I found to be in a different league to the two budget Topping DACs I tried - the D30 and D50. I've really enjoyed owning it.

My only criticism is the volume control. I much prefer outputting to a passive pre rather than using the DACs volume control and going direct to my power amp, which somehow gives a more vague and less detailed sound in my set up.

I haven't heard the D90 which uses a newer AKM chip and has MQA if that's important to you.

I have an RME ADI-2 DAC FS V2 on the way.
It came up at the right price, so I thought I would give it a try.

I have exactly the same DAC, with the AK4493 chip. It arrived yesterday after a period of auditioning.

Absolutely freakin' amazing; blew my Leema right out of the water. Massive menu system with a bewildering amount of features, but most important of all is the absolutely crystal clear sound. Detail like I've never heard from a DAC, completely transparent and hugely deep and wide soundstage, incredible impact but still completely musical with warmth and life.

End game DAC.

If you're not familiar with studio equipment, do take the time to read through the (frankly massive) manual, particularly the section on the Parametric EQ; it's a wonderful tool for correcting room modes et al. There's five excellent videos on YouTube guiding one through the menu system, definitely worth watching.

Mine arrives today, apparently.
I may get a chance to play with it later, if I am lucky.

I bought it second hand.

Nice! I couldn't find used one so I bought from Giraffe Audio. A little more than some, but on other websites there was ambiguity as to whether it had the AK4490 or the AK4493. Giraffe stated clearly that the ones they had in stock were the AK4493.

It's a complete bargain for the quality.

Mine was supposed to be delivered between 08:00 and 18:00 today.
The tracking shows it is still in Paris, so I doubt it will be here today.

Is MQA here to stay, or is it just a passing fad?

I've heard it, but it didn't stir me. No different from Qobuz or Tidal high res output, even through Martin's Hi-Fi's £250k system.

I've owned a few and heard some more.

From an unbranded one off ebay, I have own a dragonfly, Cyrus 8 dac, Tag 20, Audiolabs M dac. I borrowed a few too.
IMO the Topping is better than those but be aware the remote is rubbish.

I don’t need to. It’s not leaving the country I bought it from.
