I have a pair of Wharefdale Linton (new version)speakers that i am currently using with a Quad Artera pre and power on them. I am thinking about a change back to an integrated and wondered who else has the speakers and what they use. i don't think the Quads are really getting the best from them. I have heard them sound ,say sharper. So looking at possibly, Luxman,Accuphase,Canor any other suggestions. Will arrange a demo in near future but always good to have some input. Gato was another amp and possibly say Ming Da Piccolo . Would be good if it had an MM input . Most of this stuff would be ex den or second hand would love to try a Leben but they are not too common .
any input appreciated.

Thanks I think it’s the cs300 which I think may be slightly underpowered.

Luxman is a good choice. Mine has driven various speakers (PMC, ATC, B&W, Harbeth) over several years and keeps bass in control. Not tried with Lintons though. MM input works well too.

The Quad Artera pre + power are very good and you can pay a whole lot more and get worse.
The Ming Da and Leben aren't really suitable.
What is your budget ?

I would go £2000 to 2500 even a bit more if right amp. I loved my Luxman but want to hear on the end of some speakers but I am open to suggestions

Don’t disagree with comments on Quad I like them but I just think they are not best match for wharfedales.
I heard the Quad Vena and Audiolab 6000A with the Lintons. Quad was nice but a bit Radio 4. Audiolab was punchier and more upbeat but by no means uncouth. Nice combo. Rega Elex-R would be excellent too I think.

I think that’s the problem with the quad are terras they are a bit radio 4. They are not bad in fact they are very good but just that little bit too polite
You say you have heard Lintons sounding sharper, what was the system they were in then?

There is IMO nothing "polite" about the sounds coming out of radio 4.

I am hearing that the Linton's are a good match for Prima Luna amps. As a consequence i have them on mu short list of speakers to connect to my PL mono's.

I heard them with a Leben the Cs 600 and it was very impressive. I have a loan amp this weekend ,well arrives Monday so won’t get much of a chance to listen until next weekend. I wanted to try a. Gato 250 but have been told although very good possibly a bit “polite” as well

Colin, if you can get your hands on a Prima Luna give one a spin.

Mike's (Jachawk) Prima Luna sounds great with your Old Kralks Steve, but probably a bit pricey. I've no doubt that quality is there on the lower cost models too though.

I looked back over reviews to see what amps were used. Quite a few were valve integrated including icon audio and prima Luna. Line magnetic was used which is an interesting manufacturer there is a Uk dealer but prices are vastly higher than outside Uk. I had a prima Luna power amp two or three amps ago with triangle speakers.
Not going to rush this want to get the combination right

Well the loaned amplifier arrived last week but today was the first day I got it temporarily set up to have a listen. Started at 9.30 and eventually switched off at 5pm. The amp is a Cayin cs55a with dac and phono stage. Eventually my wife and son were sitting picking music . From ozzy through to bluegrass. Some Lou Reed , Shires , some prog genesis , two of my favourite albums Stomu Yamashta and 801 live and some of my sons more interesting music. It didn’t really favour one or other. I even had Adele on. Don’t think I have enjoyed a session so much for a long time
Tomorrow I will just use the phono all day . Have to admit incredibly musical and really worked with the speakers. Great bass and soundstage couldn’t make my mind up with triode or ultra linear but nice to have choice. Looking forward to tomorrow. Not often my wife sits and listens for a couple of hours
Sounds good. I always erred to triode if speakers were suited.
Great when family join in

It is , I get to listen to some of my sons stuff which is generally good very varied taste I always told him to try everything and he does . But occasionally he plays something or someone that I pick up on. So it was nice fire on different snacks and music .was a nice change
