hi guys.

to make a long story short, i inherited my very first turntable,
a real turd, from my father. it was a 1970's BSR "200 BAX"

and, nearly ten years later, i found my current TT
for $1.00 at a rummage sale, a german made
ELAC MIRACORD 46 rebadged for RADIO SHACK's REALISTIC imprint;

i fully restored and modified it, removing the junk stock
RCA's and power cord. i also removed the wood plinth
and polished it with OLD ENGLISH wood polish,
as well as shining up the dust cover with
a plastic scratch remover/polish.
while i was at it, i re-lubed the mechanism,
added a set of high-quality stereo RCAs and a
thick power cable with three ferrite beads slipped
around it, and added a set of kitchen table levelling-feet
to the base to serve as isolators;

i'm quite satisfied with it, and could easily live with it
permanently. it does indeed look and sound fantastic, after all.

still, i look forward to the unlikely day that i might obtain
my true dream turntable, a PIONEER PL-90;

i state "unlikely" because this TT is one of the rarest
PIONEER products in the continental U.S.
and on the occasion that is actually shows up on EBAY,
it generally commands well over $1000.00 U.S.D.
i do not believe i will ever have that kind of change
to spend on a phonograph turntable, but hey;
someday i just might get lucky...

Hi mate,

Fanstastic stuff! But could you do me a favour and tell us your proper first name?

I don't want to be referring to you as 'Tasuke' all the time ;)

Marco.

Tasuke, are your speakers JBL by any chance? They look very close to the L100-Ts that I used to own years ago and are still in good service in a friend's system.

Hehe, that BSR looked to be an update on the HT70 model they did, which compared better than the Garrard SP25 at the time (the basic MP60 that BSR/McDonald made wasn't as good).

That Miracord looks interesting. I don't think they were imported here, but it does look suspiciously like the top BSR model from the mid seventies (something 800 I think). Not a problem at all, as it was a heck of a lot better than the 60's autochanger derived lower-caste decks (as the SP25 was derived from the early 60's "Autoslim" model).

Does anyone remember that Pioneer deck, or was it another goodie that the UK never saw due to lack of interest?

P.S. Scuse me for reverting to dealer mode, but you don't use the turntables so close to the speakers do you??? :)

That square section arm looks familiar to me somehow
