I know it'll be a quiet one this time, folks, but what are you all up to?:)

We're just having a few drinks, and various nibbles and canapés Del's made, then toasting in the bells with some Champers, while watching episodes of Still Game and Two Doors Down.. Anyway, guys and gals, have a good one!:cheers:

Not much this year. We usually would attend a party and see in the New Year with family and friends.

Oh well, perhaps next year will be better.

A Happy New Year to you and yours. :)

All the Best everyone
Will have few drinks,tv or rock radio, in the lead up to 12.I will be first foot again, but after this year, worried in case I hear the door locked behind when I go out a few minutes before midnight (might put gloves on in case the door handle gets rigged to the mains):D
Jesting apart, what does every one else carry in,with us it's coal (a "roundie") but in other parts of the country I know it varies from salt or milk.

Drinking Guinness and listening to rock n roll music (Deep Purple, neighbour is away, got it cranked) so pretty much like any other night really.

Happy New Year and that.

My other half will have a couple of cocktails, I will have a nice cuppa accompanied by a few bits and nibbles. Maybe we will listen to some mellow jazz and call our relatives on the other side of the world.

New Year celebrations are a huge thing where I'm from, but I've kinda grown tired of this tradition lately.

Pizza, fizz, rum, soon to bed I'm knackered after work:zzz:

My Spanish girlfriend insists we observe their custom of eating 12 grapes at midnight, I only pretended to last year, really, after a bottle of wine I don't want any more. As much as I absolutely love it, next year I intend to knock drinking on the head, at 50 I'm gonna try and give my body a mid life service! Happy new year to all.

Spanish... custom of eating 12 grapes at midnight...

What’s the thinking behind that?

We are having a quiet night in. Candle lit dinner a deux, slowly working my way through a 2014 Chateau de Ciffre. Saint Chinian, and will probably watch Jool's Hootenanny on TV.

Slug of whisky to see in the New Year, then bed probably around 1:00 am.

Anyway here's wishing you all a Happy, Peaceful (and very much better) New Year.

We're sat watching season 3 of The Handmaid's Tale - this nondescript end to a crappy year actually looks like party central when compared to Gilead, so I'm finding it strangely heartening :)

I'll be hitting my 63rd year in less than two hours, but as the last year was so shit I've written it off and decided to be 62 again... Happy New Year to all at AoS who haven't put me on their 'Ignore' list yet

Just relaxing quietly with a couple of beers, first alcohol I've touched for months. No point going to bed early, they go mad with fireworks at the slightest excuse around here, so I'm expecting all hell to let loose at midnight. There have been quite a few already.

Just having a quick snack.

Sorry, I mean a ‘substantial meal’. :D

Ah, champagne. A lovely product made in the EU. :ner:

I hope you guys have a decent stock, as prices are likely to rise. :(
I celebrated NYE with a nice 18 year old Scott. Caol Ila. One of my favourite tipples, which is likely to be even more expensive.

Here is to Scottish independence.

Champagne isn’t made ‘in the EU’ - it’s made in France!

And as to you seeing in the New Year with an 18 year old called Scott, that may be too much information... ;)

If French sparkling wine becomes too expensive I'm sure other countries will be happy to provide an alternative :) Ultimately the sellers will suffer more than the buyers, and that's a shame.

Filterlab
02-01-2021, 16:07
Precisely. It opens markets for companies to sell at a price that's competitive, rather than the EU price fixing to give others an artificially level playing field.

Marco
02-01-2021, 16:18
Actually, the best English 'sparkling wine' [read as Champagne in all but name] is better than some French Champagne, certainly the 'entry level' stuff - and usually cheaper:)

But everybody knows you should be drinking blanquette de Limoux, the original sparkling French wine.
Better than Champagne in my opinion, and does not carry the same price tag.

Well that's ok then but personally I prefer Tizer :) the perfect accompaniment to a fish supper

Yeah, it's defo decent stuff, and as you say, offers more 'slurp per buck':)

In the UK though, a good tip for Champagne drinkers is to go for a quality English sparkling wine, as it *is* Champagne in all but name (simply because it's against the law to call it Champagne, as it wasn't produced in the Champagne region of France), but without the price premium attached.

A good one will almost certainly be better than a 'bog standard' Moet, or such like.

Well that's for me to know...

Actually Tizer is no longer my preferred Champagne substitute, it's hard to find a good vintage, what with 'Best Before' dates. So Irn Bru is where it's at these days :)
