Just got an old Exposure XX integrated off Ebay to play around with, isn't the speaker cable requirements something odd with these amps? Someone pls remind me. Any recommendations for some budget speakers to match this budget amp (twas only £200).

IIRC it’s just to avoid high capacitance cables, fairly normal practice really.

Linn speakers seemed to be used quite often when they were reviewing Exposure back in the day. Not sure I'd want to go there though. What about Proac? Or Monitor Audio? Models from the correct time period, not the modern ones.

Monitor Audio R352 (not MD). I used to have these, and loved them. Non fatiguing, real wood veneers, can be found for less than £100.

That's what I was thinking, some decent ones here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1465-Vintage-Monitor-Audio-System-R352-Speakers/143892421598?hash=item2180a81bde:g:pRUAAOSwD9Vf347 A

I was thinking Proac too, 125s or something.

Thanks, what's MD?

MD - Metal Dome I think. Must be a later version.

That's what it is. I believe they could be a bit bright in some systems.

Very nice, don't often come with the stands. They would have been north of 400 quid late 80s. Shame about the collection only thing. I would be tempted for my 2nd set up, but after all I've spent this month she'd kill me :(

What about Celef - precursors of Proac. There's a few on ebay including these

My brother had an XX back in the day and he used Heybrooks, I think they were HB1's. Sounded very good.

Using the Exposure XX with my Chario Syntar 100 mini mini floorstanders at the mo, sounded crap when first turned on, but after 30 mins its sounding quite nice, warmish sound with pleasing bass, and unlike the 2 valve amps I've been using doesn't give up when pushed hard (when I say hard I mean significantly loud). Would like to try this with other speakers though, the Syntars have such small cones!
