Andre
Do you know what SHM titles are available and from what source please?
Oh Andre, CD's are only a CARRIER for the digital files, nothing more. Transfer them to a streaming solution I doubt there's any audible difference once the computer has extracted the data and stored it. It's only the crudeness of the red book reading system that probably gives you the difference.
I remember KK raving about a new material that CD's could have been made from which gave less read-errors and was more scratch-resistant. Is this the type of CD you're talking about?
Bloody 'ell, are these prices real (£30+ per disc?). if so, then it's another money making ripoff to extract yet more dough when the bloody discs could have been made with this material right from the start..
Hi Steve
I don't know the complete catalogue..Anything in particualr your after?
Dave
I can hear the difference like night & day compared to my old CD's .I don't flog my entire CD collection for no reason you know.
I sugest instead of just going on actually try one ;)
They play on a standard CDP then?
yes they do.
And so where is it I can go to get them - interweb wise that is?
I have half a dozen SHM-CD's, and found some are outstanding.
I'm not sure if its due to the format, or because they are limitted run, Japanese pressed runs of cds. :)
10CC The Origional Sound Track is amazing.
Dire Straits by Dire Staits and Comminique are great.
The Rock and Classical and Jazz samplers at US$9.95 are amazing value, and sound wonderful.
You purchase them direct from here...

Thanks for the info Colin:)
I once bought an SHM-CD to do the test.
Their difference comes from the mastering. When I compare an SHM-CD with a corresponding CD of the same mastering there's no difference : When you extract them to PCM, the files are identical to the CD content.
So, I stopped buying SHM-CD.
Now, of course, if you can't find the same mastering on a CD, the SHM is usually better.
