Emergency!!!! Calling mac experts!!

If there are any of you guys who are Mac wizzards who could spare me a few mins I'd appreciate it.

I've a new Mac Mini which is giving me grief with it's bluetooth link to the keyboard and mouse and is very slow to boot up.

I'm currently doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard but would actually prefer to install Leopard as per my other iMac (I have the original disc) but Apple Support 'don't recommend it'

Surely if I erase the HD and do a totally clean instal it shouldn't matter if I go back should it?

Running Leopard on Apple's latest hardware won't make any difference at all. There might be some OS optimisation in Snow Leopard that takes advantage of the newer hardware, but nothing's going to give you grief!

Hope you don't mind, but my curiosity was piqued by your desire to install Leopard over Snow Leopard.

I had a wee search and found the following thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11877770) on the Apple Discussions forums. It's possible the Mac Mini is subject to similar interference and this is causing the problems.

As for the slow boot times: I'd have thought that Snow Leopard would boot more quickly purely because it doesn't have to load any PowerPC data, unlike Leopard which is backward compatible with PowerPC-based Macs. You may want to try simply re-installing Snow Leopard first. Also, who knows, maybe the Bluetooth issue is related to slow boot times—perhaps the system is slowing down waiting for it to find an input device.

Finally, technically you're not supposed to install any OS released prior to the one provided with the computer, so you _may_encounter issues, though I also doubt it, as Beechwood does. AppleCare may also be an issue, but then again it may not.

I hope you do find a way of installing Snow Leopard and using it. Apart from Quicktime Player X, which is a shadow of its former self (hence the free provision of QT 7) 10.6 is great to use.
