Pros: Plays FLAC files. Sounds very good. So light you can clip it to your collar and forget it's there. Internal and external memory are seemlessly combined in the player but separately accessible on the PC.
Cons: The published 15 hour battery life only applies to low bitrate MP3s. When using Sony EX71's I got 4 hours playing FLAC. These new EX500's are 6dB more efficient and have pushed battery life to 6 hours. Still not quite enough for a full working day.

They take a while to run in. They sounded a bit shut-in and lacking in air to begin with. I was pre-warned so I wasn't concerned. They are starting to open up nicely now. There are times already when they make me wonder why I still bother with loudspeakers :lol:

How long have you had them?
I left mine playing for a few days by them selves, that worked a treat!
They just sound completly balanced now! Nicest head/ear phones I have ever heard... An they only cost me £45

I found the smallest buds comfortable but as you say easily pulled out. The medium ones seem to stay put for me.
Did you try the cable-over-ear or the regular method?
Amazing the variation in human ears. Some people can't even keep the big buds in their lugholes.
I know , im a freek. Never tried the over ear, ill give it a go.
At the moment im using the klipsch with the comply foam tips. Very comfortable but a lot of microphonic sound with the cable rubbing. Im using the machine so much, what with movies from iplayer , DJ podcast mixes. I love the little blighter.
One day ill treat myselk to a pair of sennheiser ie7s. £100 on Amazon at the moment.

that is the one I use! Brilliant little machine, so light you would hardly know you had it on you, and FLAC only for me too though I am using Sennheiser CX300's, the case for whcih is big enough for the Sansa too! I love this better than anything I had before including ipod.
Cx3oos fitted my ears last time i checked. Im not that much of a freek.
I had gotten Nosheen the M-10 in ear monitors made by ultamite ear technology (the clear ones) She prefures the stock Zune ear buds as she hates the way the more expencive ones wrap over the ear. I have to say the Zunes do sound pretty good and they seem to stay put with no hassel. I do like that the M-10 has a replaceable cord.
I have also used the Grado 325i but there lack of any meaningful lower end just dissapoints me.
Ive been to one of those hideous what hi fi/ STUFF magazine shows and Shure have a stand there where you can try in ear phones using dissposable tips. I wish other manufacturers would do this.
When i tried out the shures the cheap ones sounded very thin, it wasnt until you got on to the £200 mark things started to sound great.

Try the M-10 they are $100.00 and beat out a lot of $200.+ because they use U.E.T. transducers and the cord is replaceable.
Out standing sound for an in ear monitor,nice bass too.
Thats whats wrong with most of these iem phones, the bass can be rubbish. Ill keep my eyes open.

No such problem with the Sonys. Not only do they rumble quite respectably, they also reveal subtleties in the bass that are lost by most loudspeakers.
I'm serious when I say I'm thinking of switching from speakers to phones for serious music listening (I'll be keeping the speakers for movies though).
I can understand your point of view. The intamacy and low distortion clarity is wonderful but i would miss the soundstaging of my monitors.

The funny thing about there specs is they advertise 20hz to 13khz. but they fair far better than menny brands boasting 20 hz.to 20 khz.
I was told they are very conservative on specs and don't count a 10db. drop as most others do.
They also go very deep for a single armature driver IEM.
They are said to be the flatest and most wide ranged single armature IEM made today.
IEM dosen't sound stage but great head phones do.

At the office I use Fischer Audio Silver Bullet IEM, for working around the house\gardening ect I use AKG K26P portable over the ear jobs and when just listening indoors I use Senheisser HD25SP (300ohm ex BA Concorde jobs) + a Fii0 E5 portable headphone amp.

Admitedly, it's a bit tricky to listen to it when walking and it's hopless in the car, but I bet the sound quality's better than anything else on this thread! ;)

I bought one of those modern " clear sounding digital amp" walkmans recently.
Dont know if its clear sounding or not because its got a bloody sound limiter on it.
The EU dont trust me with my hearing and have made sony cap volume for the European market. Its great for the iplayer though.

Sony W995 Walkman phone and Koss Portapros. The Portapros have been fitted with Sennheiser PX200 cushioned pads. THese offer more comfort and better isolation from outside noise.

I have a Creative Labs Zen X-Fi, I use either the supplied buds or the Sony Eriksson ones that came with my W995
I also have a little valve headphone amp that I use with Sennheiser HD414s
Brilliant i have two of these.
Another vote for the Sansa Clip - fantastic bit of kit. I loved it from day 1. It's easier on PC than Mac though. The days of clunky MP3 players are long gone. I sold my iaudio X5 straight after buying this. I also love the generic headphones, spanked my crappy CX's.

Phew! I always worry when I praise or recommend something (especially something virtually unknown) in case it doesn't suit someone else, so glad it is working for you too, Bernie.
I've just pre-ordered a Sansa Fuze+ 16GB which looks and sounds to be a nice piece of kit. From what I've heard the sound's as good as the Clip so as that's got good reviews on here, I'm quite looking forward to getting it (and the Fuze+) :)
Seriously, though, I've seen that people seem to recommend FLAC files for music. Are these any better sound-wise than WAV? (I haven't really looked into this yet). Also, has anyone tried ogg and is it any better than mp3? Just thought I'd ask. The only portable digital player I've ever had was a tenner from ASDA, so you don't expect much, but it only plays wav and mp3 files so I haven't had much cause to try these other formats.

Back on the subject of personal rigs I'm really happy with the general performance of my iPod and Neco but finding a set of portable headphones is driving me nuts!
I first tried Sennheiser PX200s. Bass was good/tight but treble was definitely lacking. Very recessed cimbals/top end.
Next I tried a set of Koss Portapros and these sounded a lot better. Treble is good with great twang to acoustic guitar, voices sound good. Cymbals etc sound a bit bright but not too bad. Bass tends to be a bit more one-note than the px200s.
Decided to try a set of Sennheiser px100 II as they get better reviews than the px200s. Bass is very good and treble isn't bad but, once again, cymbals etc are too recessed for my liking. They sound like they're in the next room!
So far the Koss are the best compromise for me. I can't help wondering if there's a better solution out there that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg.
I'm wondering if I should try a pair of iGrados. Any other suggestions anybody could offer would be greatly appreciated. The missus is getting a bit pissed off with the rising pile of headphones in the house.

IMO - yes - they go very well with the Neco. Only issues I found are comfort (the neck band design hurts my ears after about 5-6 hours) and they are very leaky, so not the best choice for others! I've also had good results with the Goldring NS1000 if you want something that doesn't leak too much and has very effective noise cancelling (£60 - cheapest I can find them now (http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/4801)) but they're not very portable, which may or may not be important for you.

The ability to stick a 16GB camera card into it in addition to the internal space was the icing on the cake.I use FLAC period.

It's the latest and greatest from SanDisk for those who like a little video now and again with their audio.
It has a nice touch panel with gesture control by all accounts.
It has a bigger battery than the clip so if you don't mind a larger device then you can play for longer.
Available in the UK on October 22nd according to Amazon.

Well, the Fuze+ turned up this week and it's a nice little device. Sounds quite good through my Philips cans and now I've got my head round how to set the id3 tags on my music files, I've really enjoyed listening to it. Must try some FLAC files and see how much it improves things. Could be in for a lot of new ripping. Thank goodness for the new computer with 2TB of storage! Hehehehehe!

Ditto, although I got mine a couple of days ago. Unfortunately the Playtrade sourced 16GB card arrived as a 4GB card so I need to send it back. Seems very good value altogether for what is an easy to use, small, and good sounding player. I'm using my Koss KSC-75's for the headphones.

Seems like there are quite a few Sansa owners on here. I've never actually seen one in a shop (although until recently I'd never looked for them) but they seem to be a hidden treasure. I must say that the Fuze+ is the least hassle of any mp3 player I've used, the sound's certainly on a par with my elder daughter's iTouch (don't go there, I HATE them) and better than my younger daughter's Walkman (although it was much cheaper!)

I spend a lot of time in hospital and find some music passes the time. Currently I have been using a Cowon D2 into a MiniBox E+ driving a pair of Sennheiser IE-8s. The interconnect is home made silver with Neutric plugs.

The I have had the Cowon and Minibox a couple of years now and they work well together with the amp giving a subtle but worthwhile quality of ‘get up and go’ to the sound into the IE-8s or some Grado SR125s. It’s a bit like comparing the dynamics of my Leak Stereo 20 with the Quad 303. The Sennheiser universals are vaguely similar to my HD650s in sound (though not as good of course) but are a whole lot more convenient. They also give some worthwhile isolation. The rather under rated amp is very good quality and certainly on par with my Graham Slee 2007 Solo and PSU1.
If I am caught without this rig (which fits into a couple of small digital camera cases) I get by with my Samsung Jet phone and a pair of Senn. CX300s, which while perhaps not the greatest I find very usable in waiting rooms etc where there is some ambient noise.

When not wanting to disturb the rest of the house in the dead of night, I use a Hifiman HM-801 into either a pair of fairly old and rewired Grado SR125s or a pair of Senn. HD650s with a cut down lead. A great if costly machine this 801, IMHO loverly sound and it can be plugged into various systems around and about the house for some Mp3 or FLAC file playback (it’s playing into the Quad ELS57 system as I write). I used to use this setup at the hospital but find the Cowon combination quite good enough, and it has a much longer run time than the 801.
I also have a miniature Stax SR001 headphone system, but while it can sound good (better HF than the 650s), the pressure on the ear canal needed to get a good seal makes it so painful after about hour or so that I have to take them off.;)

I love my Clip, it was a breath of fresh air after my Cowon X5. You don't need an all singing, all dancing MP3 player these days with all the smartphones, etc dong the rounds.
Last Summer my local PC world was selling them off for tuppence as end of line stock - wish I'd cashed in now but I had no spare dosh at the time. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Ok chaps i use a 30Gb ipod video and a set of HD415 Senns, an ok the senns are a little bit big but they keep your ears nice and warm on these cold autumn mornings.
As a side note, unlike many other portable players, you can buy all the spairs for your ipod, Hard Drives, front covers, batteries etc so if they do develop a problem or the case gets really badly scratched, you can do something about it yourself, and quite cheeply too, which is surprising as anything Apple tends to carry a hefty price tag.
I just loaded up a brand new 160 gig. Ipod Classic.
You get 149 gigs usable space,I have 133 gigs of music on it now.
I have 15.9 gigs. of space left.

Neither could I! I picked this one up on eBay a few years ago... it had been used to record birdsong, so was in nice condition, little used :)

Whitworth is probably correct I haven't used them in 25 years.
The new Ipod has implemented the Cirrus Dac chip and is no longer using a Wolfson in any of the new Ipods.
I guess the new Cirrus integrates better with the analog out put stage.
I own 2 80 gig. Zunes a 16 gig.Nano 4th gen.and the 160 gig. 7th.Gen Classic.
Zune has stopped making Hardware and is folding up production for good.
Apple is discontinuing the once popular Ipods to be replaced by the Ipod touch with out the phone feature so I was told.
IMO Zune was in alot of ways better than the Ipod but the new Ipod sounds far better than any before and the battery lasts longer too.
Finally Apple makes a player that sounds great,it could use a stronger internal amp and better earphones but it is leaps and bounds over Gen.5 and below.
I still think you need a portable amp to get the most out of it.
I think the days of mechanical drive media players are pretty much over and solid state will be our only choice.
I hope they can build them to last longer with more re wrights before they die.
Being a fan of Zune before,I am happy to say Get an Ipod classic 160 gig 7th Gen, while you can!
You will be happy with the audio it can produce in Apple Lossless.

Got the old Fuze with an 8 GB SD card. Currently banded to a pair of Superlux 668B as it was last used for light gardenwork.
I have several couple of SonyEricsson IEM style headphones from their mobiles. They are good when mowing the lawn or for work.
In the office I have a Passport harddrive with my complete collection. I use it with SBS and Squeezeslave. That setup got me through the 3 months I spent in Athlone spring 2009.
Now that I have a second StanDac it might find the way to my next work setup together with a pair of closed Superlux; just need to find my next work.

This was my Christmas present to myself...:)
I had the op amps upgraded to AD8610's and the batteries upgraded to 2 x 500mA Li-ion ones. Which turn off after charging.
I also like the idea that you can also charge them via USB as well as mains.
Its built like a tank! and the sound is amazing. Can't wait its burnt in...:eek:

It probably sounds better than the earlier version I have (also with the same upgraded opamps) but they do sound pretty good don't they? :eyebrows:

After you mentioned ordering one I went and had a look at the ad. I was interested in the battery upgrade so contacted Neco. He advised me on mods to the charging circuit on mine to charge a new Li-ion 500mA battery, replacing the 200mA NiMH I had in it. Should now be able to use it for a lot longer between charges, so I got something out of your little Chrissy present too. :)

Did you find the SR325i to be grating in the treble range?
I did 400 hours of break in and stll couldn't stand more than 5 min. of them.
