Hi,

I have 2 x 3m runs of this cable, unterminated IIRC (it's been packed away for ages cos of it's inflexibility).

Is it worth anything?

Now, I know you'll all say no and buy it off me for a fiver, but come on, I'm unemployed. Trying to scrape together a few quid ;)

£5 a metre should be fair - it's a good cable and loves traditional valve amps I found.

Ooh, I'll have to get back to you on that Andy. I'll measure them up tomorrow, ok?

Andy, and anyone else who wants to know,

The Target stand has 5 shelves and looks very much like this one>
http://www.depanorama.net/audio/target.gif
The dimensions are approx 51cm x 40cm x 85cm (WxDxH)

The internal width is 47cm, and the internal shelf height is 16cm. The shelves are black ash effect, and the top one is separately spiked.

The other rack is by Standesign and not Sound Organisation (my mistake, although it is similar in that it has central columns on the sides rather than 4 corner posts, if you see what I mean. Also, it has only 4 shelves, not 5, but this gives you 23cm between shelves rather than 16cm. All other dimensions are roughly the same as the Target. It was a little difficult for me to get to as I had some other heavy stuff in the way. Black ash effect shelves on this one too.

It looks like this, but has 4 shelves, not 5 >

Hope that helps.

Maybe I should start a new thread....

I'm pretty sure it has 4, as I say it was partly blocked by some other stuff, but then again, if it had 5 shelves, the spacing would no doubt be different.

I am looking for 5 shelves with 20cm spacing. :)

Or at least 2 spaces of 20 cm and 2 of 17.5 cm.

No hurry though (long term project thingy), so dont worry too much about upending everything.

Update: The cable is 12ft in length, so just under 4m actually. The cable says Naim Audio ----> (with the arrow) but nothing else. It doesn't say A5 or anything. Can I assume it's A5? The cable is terminated with banana plugs, but nothing special.

If the cable is as stiff as old boots and difficult to "form" - it springs back to near straight - then it's A5, which is an inert insulation with 19 thickish strands. The A4 cable is seemingly a classic 42 strand with a web "spacer" between the conductors. In our situation, the black A4 aged over a few years and all the internal copper went dirty looking. The white A4 was better in this respect.

The A5 is silly money now, but does work well with softer sounding valve amps. It was magical with my Quad II's as I remember and IMO only really worked with Olive Naim over very long runs (several metres each).

P.S. The A4 had the Naim logo and text stamped into the webbing IIRC..

Thanks Dave,

Looks like it's A5 then
