Established in 2002 originally as Omiga Audio by Tim Price and Tony Sallis, based in Cheltenham supplying O.E. manufacturers with signal transfer devices and digital integration systems. After a management take over in 2005 Coherent Systems was set up as high end dealership specialising in superb equipment with system optimisation and synergy at the the heart of our principles.
We are one of the foremost digital audio specialists in the country with over 25 years of specialist experience in this area, from CD players to high resolution playback we can deliver a sound that will delight.

Our repair and upgrade facilities sport some of the very latest and specialist test and measurement equipment from the world's best manufacturers Teledyne LeCroy Keysight , Rohde & Schwarz, Tektronix, Kikusui, Picotech, Flir, GW Instek, Rigol, Siglent. 12bit oscilloscopes, up to 8Ghz bandwidth, Real time spectrum analyzers, ultra low noise bench power supplies and 7.5 digit multi meters, Vector network analyzers (cable and transmission line measurements). We are very well placed to identify any issues within your problematic equipment. We strongly believe we have one of the best lab facilities for audio within the UK and that includes many manufacturers of audio equipment!
Coherent Systems have over the years acquired state of art electronics test equipment to enable us to investigate pretty much any issue that affects audio equipment. We can go in-depth into RF and EMI emission testing both conducted and radiated at a board level with real time spectrum analysis and large GHz bandwidth oscilloscopes, LISN’s impedance analyzers, power analyzers, Audio analyzers thermal imaging camera’s etc. We have the ability to deep dive into those most interesting of problems!

We specialize in all digital electronics, CD/SACD/DVD players. Amplifiers (both solid state and valve), digital to analogue converters, power supplies too.
We also have great experience with turntables both in mechanical repairs and set up and use the very latest tools to extract the best form your vinyl playback.

An image of one of our designs power supply being thoroughly tested for CE emissions before any work commences. Looking at the incoming mains noise and how much conducted noise is being transferred to the PSU and the end result we are looking at CISPER 16 standards for DC output ripple and harmonic noise via a real time.

Here was are looking into the jitter spectra, trend RJ/DJ and histogram of a Mutec MC3 clock with our superb LeCroy Wavepro 254 12 bit scope with a Rigol MSO8000 providing damn fine conformation of the results

Here is one of our new QP-1 ultra quiet power supply being measured with a 1 amp dynamic load applied to the DUT (device under test) as you can see it clearly show dc line ripple noise below 18uv which is quite decent given its actually being measured with a genuinely working load applied! To put this into perspective our Keysight E36313A industry standard has a ripple noise of 'only' 350uv

Here we are testing a new regulator design with the DC power analyzer which is both a power supply, dc load, sink and data logger very useful piece of equipment for characterizing power supplies.

Lastly demonstration of an ultra clean linear audio dc power supply happily delivering a solid 2 amps @ 12Vdc through a dynamic dc load.

This week due the complexity of of designing SMPS (Non audio versions!) and keeping the the liner power supplies as quiet as humanly possible.
This week have taken delivery of a lovely very low noise 12 bit LeCroy scope for low level power rail and mains measurements along with some useful voltage and current probes so this enables us to really dig deep into the heart of the audio and look at those circuit board induced noise without having to spend all day setting up TDR kit.
Proving a great tool in the arsenal for reducing both mains and dc noise in electronic circuits in general.

Well the last few weeks have been incredibly busy with upgrades, repairs and new sales not had much time to get to grips with a few projects I have been working on.
Also we have been updating the electronics lab and expanding the research space we have.

This week we have taken delivery of some interesting new additions to the audio side of electronics business, a Rhode & Schwarz UPV66 audio analyzer with full full sweet of audio analysis capabilities. The same model that Hifi World use only ours uses a separate monitor screen, just getting to grips with this as it sports different features than my Standford Research SR785
More on this in coming weeks, as now we can look into the other side of audio measurements for any correlations after 20Khz and spurious noise well above this threshold.

Recently we have seen some very nice quality pre-amplifiers in our lab for inspection, upgrades and servicing.
A rather nice example of a Plinius Tautoro with damn fine channel separation and balance within 3mv Underrated pre amp in my book
This week a real blast from the past and one piece of audio equipment I have always had a soft spot for Hovland, having own these great pieces in the past it was great to see a really well cared for example of a HP100 pre amplifier a wonderfully musical device

Not so much today but pretty much all week, we have been absolutely silly busy, from cables, to new product launches and some finial testing on some audio projects that we are proud of. The Team has been really pulling out all the stops this weak so a big thank you Peter and Matt for their top support.
Further developments this week saw the finalising of our rather nifty full differential a/c filter, quality dc blocker and programmable soft start modules.
Full measurement analysis and stress testing has been progressing all week, with in rush current modelling and full CE CISPER testing all past with flying colours. We are very pleased with the results which result in some of the lowest ripple current numbers we have seen for larger current uses and very low RF figures for the CE standards.This week we have accurately recorded a mere 5uA of ripple current with 1.6amps of current draw at the device under test with 12Vdc rock steady.

Well its been very hectic in the few weeks here at Coherent central, plus with the delightful bonus of a lightening strike at the end of last week (deep joy ) so I decided to put some extra protection in the the mains supply and while I was at it install a new full isolated supply with surgeprotection to the lab. Plus an oppotunity to really organise the lab into a professional enviroment (insert appropriate term here)
So its been all hands to the pumps in the last 48 hours so after some gardening and some lindy hop (yes really) I can finially say we are now back up to full speed in the lab and kicking off next week with fresh vigour!
When I removed all of the test equipment to facilitate the installation of the new mains supply, just didn't realise exactly how much equipment we have and how long it takes to clean it, test it and re instate it. Our total amount of T&E equipmwnt has far more depth, however for the purproses of the images its not easy to show horn it all in!
We feel we have one of the best EE labs for audio fault finding, upgradeds and design here in the UK, why not take advantage of our services.

Well, we are in bloody March already, just where does the time go? I really am at a loss with portion of life. We have been really seriously busy with a wide variety of activities within the audio circles, sales, installation, room design and build, analogue systems (lol yes) plus further expansion of the lab and storage facilities.
As of this week we are now one of the most extensively equipped electronics labs for audio in the UK and well as the expertise on a wide range of electronics from audio and beyond!
