CD Solution

Hi,

My hifi gear is upstairs, while in the lounge we have an iPod system; the Monitor Audio iDeck, pictured here:

It's a great bit of kit with a decent name behind it (I have 2 actually), but we've come to realise that we'd still like to chuck a cd on downstairs now and again. So, I need a small, cheap cd solution. The iDeck does have an input jack so it will accept external kit, but that might just clutter up the top of the bookcase where it resides. I thought about getting some kind of mini system and using the iDeck speakers but I don't know much about mini systems except that Onkyo and Denon seem to make gooduns.

Any thoughts chaps?

You can buy a Teac Hd300 mk ? standalone midi sized CD player. Full CD functionality remote and passably good sound. Output via a pair of RCAs

Richer Sounds sell these..... You also see them on Ebay quite often and amazon.....seems to be called a 380 now.

I have a Teac mk1 set up but the CD player did stop recognising CDs eventually but the amp tuner and MD player still see regular use round the house.

Yes.

You seemed to indicate that the units you have comes with aux inputs. If so just hook the rca out into the aux input. If it is a single jack in you can get two phono to single jack cables.

Yep, there's one on ebay atm, plus there's few Denon units too.

I s'pose that won't look too bad. The centre (amp) section of the iDeck could even sit on top.

Yes it could indeed sit on it.

You can buy systems from Teac, Denon and Onkyo as well but the separate CD player will give you better sound though those aforementioned all in ones are very good. Reliability wise I would go Teac or Onkyo as Denons in my experience can be a tad unreliable.

Hmmm, how annoying. I was just using the ideck with my ipod, and after a while, the volume started going wrong. When turning up or down the sound would disappear from one speaker with a loud pop, then reappear, only to do it again on the other speaker. This is only actually while turning the volume up or down. Any thoughts on what could be the problem?

I'll have to dig my other one out in the meantime.
