Well the storm is over.. My back garden looks like a tornado passed by really close.. :rolleyes:

Actually even though it has rained over the last couple of days, and also been windy for some, it has actually been a lot brighter. I think that sunlight affects me more than "merely" rain. I really dislike grey days. I'm sure I'm not imagining this.
We had little blue sky earlier but since then raining on and off. Mild though.

The worst October I can remember with around 6 hours of Sun I can recall through the month. I hope November is better though it has started rather badly.

Dry and bright so far this morning and about 9c
was quite warm overnight.. overcast today with supposedly some sun this afternoon.. 12c

Warms up quite a bit here next week though according to the forecast.

Dry so far today.
Well... Just filled nearly two green-bins full of bloody leaves! Garden's looking nice and tidy now, so time for a late lunch... Tortiglioni with spicy tomato sauce and fresh basil, washed down with a couple of glasses of Chianti!:)

Very sunny but chilly day - went for mountain bike ride around local reservoir with my wife, superb buzz and brilliant autumnal colours. Still feeling on a bit of a high.

We apparently get twice as many sunny days south of the South Downs as the rest of you folks.
It's a little climate hotspot that runs from Poole to Brighton.
Not many people know that.... :lol:

Sea temperature a chilly 12C. I packed it in a month ago. But desperate for some exercise. Biking and walking seem the only options right now.

It's damp in Winter. Makes you feel cold.
Cotton is very bad in damp weather. Gets damp too. Ramblers know this.
Have to dig out some warm stuff. Thick woolly socks work well. Woolly hats too.
my upper legs stay warm but the lower half get cold, especially at night.. those loose lower leg only sock things look the business for bed but only made for women alas.

Anyway, I'd been moaning to Dad that he only ever took my older brother to Stoke City F.C., so he let me join the party. It was chucking it down that day, and when we got to the notorious boggy Victoria football ground we found the game was off. Pity was 50-y-o football legend Stanley Matthews was in the team. I never saw him play. :(

We often go to Whitchurch; it's a lovely little town, full of decent shops and quality eateries, and just down the road. One of the things I love about living here is that , aside from the lovely places there is to visit in Wales, we're also on the borders of Shropshire and Cheshire, which themselves have lots to offer.
So we can't wait for England to come out of lockdown (and inhabitants of Wales being allowed to travel outside of the country), so we can frequent some of our old haunts in England, and visit Chester and Shrewsbury again to do some Christmas shopping!:cool:

According to the Met Office it’s all down to the size of water droplets.
Although ‘heavy rain’ does sound like it would get you wetter than ‘fine rain’ or ‘showers’ it appears that not as many droplets will fall in a heavy downpour, therefore people caught in it, will not get as wet.
...and the size of raindrops is highly variable, from as small as 0.5mm, which you may find in a drizzle to as large as 6mm in diameter, which could be seen in thunderstorms.
A Met Office spokesman said: “All rain is wet and will make you wet.
“But how wet they make you can be to do with how they land.
“Smaller droplets may stick to you more so than bigger droplets which could bounce off you.
“Plus there will be less of the big droplets than the small.”
wet here now. 11c and will only go down to 8c overnight, so quite balmy. a threat of a bit of sun with occasional showers for tomorrow.:)

sure, and if you get to monsoon levels, all bets are off. but the standard weather we get, that really small rain we in scotland especially get a lot of, does soak you quicker. the big stuff has a habit of splashing off you.. obviously if its coming down in buckets then it doesnt count tho. a scots haar is nasty
Yes, we're in agreement. I just don't expose myself to ANY kind of wet weather (don't work outdoors or anything) unless I have NO option!
If the weather's bad, I'm generally either in the house or in the car. And if I'm in the car, and get out and it's raining, I use a brolly for the short time I'm exposed to the elements, before reaching shelter:)

I think it was my birthday.
So Mum and Dad were feeling generous.
They hired a Magician to pull the usual entertaining stunts.
But I wanted more. So Dad dug into his pocket and pulled out some Cash.
What we then saw was beyond belief. It was intense. The girl lay on her back and rubbed her heels together.
The Magician laid a cloth across her throat, and seemed to push a foot long knife behind her windpipe.
He then pulled off the cloth, and we could see the Knife. But she was still rubbing her heels so we guessed she was still alive.
He then replaced the cloth and withdrew the knife.
Amazingly the girl jumped up, seemingly recovered. Weird stuff to throw at a 4 year old.

When my daughters were about 5 /6 years old, their primary school had a Christmas party - parents were invited too.
The magician they'd hired had an interesting but rather disturbing trick: He stuffed half a dozen or so razor blades into his mouth, along with a scrunched up length of string, then pulled out the string, with the blades attached like washing on a line.
The children were amazed, the parents less so. Probably not really suitable for impressionable little kiddies. Went back to balloon animals the following year.
Impressive trickery for sure.

Rain expected here later. At least the mutt has been out for a haul around the block. We could do with heavy rain from 5pm until 1am to deter any more fireworks. It was the usual mayhem here last night, the morons seem intent on using thousands of the loudest fireworks that can be found.

It was raining quite heavy on our dog walk this morning.
My Staffy really doesn't like rain. So, at the end of our road she squatted, pretended to have a poo then tried to go back home - got to admire her thought process :)

A "pat" of diarrhoea from an 11 stone dog is a thing of wonder. I then had to go home for a bucket of water, the bastard :(

I'd introduce massive on-the-spot fines for any dog owner who doesn't clean up his or her pet's mess, carried out by enforcement officers - and I'd incentivise other members of the public, if witnessing such behaviour, to take pictures of the perpetrators (dog owners) and report them to the relevant authorities.
This is unlikely to apply to anyone here, but too many folk have pets (of all kinds) and neglect to take proper responsibility for them! Therefore, stricter laws need enforcing in order to prevent such despicable behaviour.

Horse Poo used to be considered a precious resource.
Historically you'd follow horses and scrape up the residue and throw it on the garden.
Made the tomatoes grow well.
But Cat Poo is foul stuff.
And yellow patches on the freshly mown lawn from dog bitches doing a Number One are just plain irritating.

And got a dog turd pushed in his face, which my brother wasn't squeamish about picking up. So they do have their uses sometimes.

There was a joke shop in Preston used to sell them. The dog one was called 'Mucky Pup', which I couldn't afford, so I bought the smaller 'Mucky Puss'. It was more believable anyway if there was a puppy about :)

I'd introduce massive on-the-spot fines for any dog owner who doesn't clean up his or her pet's mess, carried out by enforcement officers - and I'd incentivise other members of the public, if witnessing such behaviour, to take pictures of the perpetrators (dog owners) and report them to the relevant authorities.
This is unlikely to apply to anyone here, but too many folk have pets (of all kinds) and neglect to take proper responsibility for them! Therefore, stricter laws need enforcing in order to prevent such despicable behaviour.

Your dog did that on your way out ...." She tried to expostulate - "It wasn't my dog ...", but I disagreed. "I've been sitting here for an hour, and yours was the only one to 'drop' by". A few minutes later she returned with a bag and a scoop.
That reduced the problem for quite a long while after that, IIRC. Dog owners who allow their dogs to dump outside other people's houses should be called out if they don't clear up, though unfortunately I have on occasion been "given" a dog to look after (not very willingly), which has caused me some embarrassment.

I see a lot of dog walkers carrying a bag of poo these days, and that's how it should be. It's their civic duty after all. But it's the people picking up poo and putting it in a bag, that don't even have a dog, they're the ones to worry about :D especially if their tabard has KFC printed on it

Fairy muff... One advantage of this house having smallish (leaded) windows is that there's less surface area to vibrate, although in the bedroom we also have secondary double-glazing, so you don't really hear rain:)

It is, as it happens. I get a lot more done at home, but then I have no distractions. Some people have had problems when their children were off school though, which is understandable.

Yeah lol, you want to have seen her. I told her to phone me for a lift if it was raining. But she decided to walk back, as the rain wasn't as heavy when she left work. I didn't even realise it was raining because I had the curtains closed!
She left here this morning when it was dry and sunny. Told her to wear her boots, but she knew better and wore ballet flats instead, with a skirt... So her feet were soaking (tights wringing wet - had to peel them off of her they were that bad, lol), as she dried herself by the fire. Hair all dishevelled, with the plaits/pigtails she'd spent ages doing this morning all wet and tangled up, blouse and skirt all soaking, too..
I should've taken a pic!:lol:
Anyway, she's snuggling up beside the coal fire now in her dressing gown, with her hot water bottle and nice cup of tea, and feeling much better... Next time she'll defo be calling me for a lift! Daftee...

Including cleaning up two Rock Doors in the hope of getting them sold. They are only 12 months old. I fitted two entrance doors for a customer last week at a caravan park ("it's NOT a caravan park, it's a residential park!") Well these Rock Doors were too heavy for her "residence", and whenever she closed the door her pot dogs fell off the shelves. So I replaced with upvc. Anyway she said I could sell them on if I wanted.
Pity they're both stable doors, limits my market. Mr. Ed would love them, but unfortunately Ed is brown bread :(

:eek: God I hope no one thinks I'm trying to use the forum for selling them! My plan is to use Ebay/Facebook/Gumtree. I'll get out there and get details shortly. But I can tell you now they both open out, which is great if space inside is at a premium.
Right I've measured them. Smaller one is 840x1860mm. Add to that height 30mm for a sill, which is needed. Larger one is 900x1990mm. This is "face drained" so doesn't need a sill, but can have one if wanted.
My view, based on past experience, is that it is going to be a long cold Winter.

Watched a programme last night about people who have moved to Barbados to 'work from home.'
They give you a 12 month residency for £1200 - but you have to be earning more than £38K year to be considered which rules me out.
Could go for that though. They're 4 hours behind which would mean starting work at 5 am Barbados time, but I could live with that.
