Hi All,
Having been away from the world of High Fidelity sound for the past 6 years, I thought it was time I made my return.
All I have at the moment, is a 3rd generation Ipod Nano 8Gb.
I think the main reason for not listening, to much music, is down to the tedium of listening to compressed files. I rip my CDs at 256 Kb/s but they still don't sound as good as they should. After 15 minutes of listening, I've heard enough..:steam:
As for the latest so-called remastered CDs :(:(:( Why use so much compression?
I had a Pro-ject Debut,for a while,and then a Thorens TD125 MKII with a Graham Slee Gram Amp. Happy days!
Sold everything in 2004 :mental:

Time to start again.

Welcome - you won't need to spend a fortune to get a great sound these days either. Do it right with a carefully matched inexpensive setup (with used gear?) and your MP3's won't sound as bad either as, IMO, the better hifi's tend to be able to tackle all forms of compression much better than the less good ones and at least make them listenable.. I think my museum-piece system is a good example of that :)

There will be plenty of eager folk ready to help you spend your money, so ask away for advice. Presume you're after vinyl as a source? Anything on the short-list? I guess my limited advice would be to take your time and not rush into anything, listen to plenty of options before taking the plunge - half the fun of buying anything is the research and demos!

I think vinyl is definately the way to go, for me it is anyway.
Gear wise, I'm thinking about a vintage Thorens TT rather than spending my cash on a modern one.
A modern phono stage, a decent pair of cans and a headphone amplifier are all I require. Hope to do it all for £500ish.
