View Full Version : Van Damme XKE Microphone Balanced Pro-Patch Cable - Mission 774 exterior cable?

I had 3 metres of Van Damme XKE Microphone Balanced Pro-Patch Cable (https://www.van-damme.com/vandamme_product/van-damme-pro-grade-classic-xke-pro-patch-cable/) after making a headphone extension and as I was still in the process of setting up my first Turntable in a long while I thought I would try it out as an external Mission 774 tonearm cable.
So 2 x 1.5 metre cables, using the twisted pair for + and – per channel and I earthed the screens to the amp.

It sounds fine, but I actually have nothing to compare it to, so was wondering:

Is this an OK choice for a cable?
Have I configured it properly?

What you have done is fine and should work well.

I have used Van Damme XKE cable for balanced-line interconnects.

Thanks Barry, I suppose the next question would be what would be a better cable or way of doing it?
When I bought the Van Damme I did see a Sommer Carbokab, more expensive but better?

Sommer Carbokab cable is preferred by some, but it's difficult to prepare and is relatively thick and inflexible. I have made up some balanced-line cables using it, but they are not my first choice.

Thanks again! One thing about the Van Damme is it's thin and flexible and works well in my standard Thorens TD160B plinth.

Audio Origami use this Van Damme in their cables and I used it recently on a now sold Hadcock.

yep its fine,in fact audio origami does just that and charges a fortune too!

I did get a quote from them. DIY cost me about £16 because I used Switchcraft rca's, would have been about £8 with Rean rca's, cheaper if I bought in bulk!
