I'm thinking about making a pair of stands for my speakers. My old stands are too high, and the speakers work better around 14-15" from the floor.

I also want a pair of stands that are circular, the same as the speakers themselves. JR-149's are 23cm in diameter. What I'm thinking of is an industrial diameter pipe, probably rigid plastic, filled with lead shot or 'atabite' type stuff (mashed up nails) mixed with concrete.

I could spike them too...

Does anyone have any recommendations as to suppliers of pipe with a diameter of 23cm or slightly larger? And any other thoughts on making these acoustically robust?

Thank you!

Thanks Chris.

Hmm...

Link #2... I'd forgotten about that article :) Looks like some good ideas. I would like something a bit substantial pipewise though, from a weight and stability perspective.

Go for concrete Nick - the stuff they use for culverts.

If you can procure pipe of the dimension you require, get two bits to use as a mould and fill with concrete.Cut open the pipe and you have two concrete pillars you could paint to suit.

Hi Nick,

Are you any good with a welder is so i have made speakers stands in the past out of steel bought from a scrap yard and welded it all togther and filled it with kiln dried sand, the thicker the metal the better the end result and easier to weld together.
Get some tube or box section along with some flat plate and Bobs your uncle
