For sale - Goldring Excel GS cartridge
This is a recent purchase from Goldring, who found some NOS parts and made a small batch of the Gyger S - tipped version of the Excel moving coil cartridge. This has around 50 hours of play, and has the following specs:
Weight 8.5 grams
Tracking 1.7 grams
Output 0.5mV
Static Compliance 16 mm/N
It is this last spec that means it is better on light/medium mass arms. I had it working on a 12 inch (14 gram effective mass) arm, which was fine, but it was better on a friend's lighter 9 inch. I would recommend arms of less than 12 grams for it, such as SME 5, SME 3009 improved, or even SME series 3, Mission or Hadcock.
This is a really good cartridge - detailed, dynamic and sweet, and is high value for money imo.
