Hi Guys
My real name is dan, thought best to say hi!
I'd been waiting about 2 months to get activation here, I think I was hiding under the radar which is not my usual practice but accidents happen, thanks Marco for noticing little old me :)
I come here after a recommendation from a good mate of mine mick (mmar), so hopefully I will enjoy myself here and just to get the water stirred and the blood boiling a bit, yesterday I scrapped all my hifi to go all active via a mac and dac to see if this is the way forward and at the moment I am not regretting the change over.
Feel free to say hi and give me a hard time in response to my recent escapade, I am not a traitor yet.......well I still love music and all this faffing is in pursuit of an easier more accessable way and means of listening to that thing we all by hifi for.
Also I have just set my misses up with her first hifi which is all esoteric and ruarks so I still have something I can fiddle with I spose.

hi dan , shit you sold the anateks was very tempted by the pair listed recently but think im going to stick with the intergrated route , what speakers are you running then dan !

Is that how active speakers are seen is it, as traitorus to hifi?

In my personal view I like to get the best for my tunes and money but unfortuanately many do look at actives as non hifi as they are in the pro studio region.
Personally I prefer the sound and the reproduction of the music is so accurate and engrossing
Mick I know the Annies were awesome and I almost got the other set listed at first to bi amp some Neats but I have settle for actives, I bought 2 sets some Tannoys and soome Focals I am keeping the Focals as they are smaller than the Tannoys so I will need to shift them I only opened one box to see the size of them and they are a little too big for me
The Anateks went to a good home tho, which is the main thing I suppose

I do yeah, only for a few weeks so far... But so far I'm pretty certain it was the best decision I have made in hifi...
Which ones do you have?
Focal cms 65's and I may get the solo 6be's if they ever change the colour of the side cheeks, else I would have in the first place
Urs look nice tho and for £4k Im sure they sound it?

I can see what you mean about those side cheeks ... It's that colour that stopped my missis from allowing me a second hand pair of 1007's... I'm happy she pushed me in this direction though ... I got a good deal on these too, yeah they do sound very nice

Glad ur happy with them its the best decision I have made so far and Im sure Joe was joking but it makes for interesting discussions anyways, I think I would be very hard pushed to even consider going back to passives!

Ditto, I haven't got a huge experience of speakers but I can't see how I could possibly get a pair of passive speakers and amps to drive them in such a way that would be as good as this for the sort of money I paid...
I think the only way would be to go down the non commercial product way ... But, in the end this was the path of least resistance, so I took it...... And I can't see me looking back within my main system!
There is a real solidity to the sound that comes from these in a way that sounds completly effortless, and natural.... Is that the same sort of feel you get from yours?

I got the focals on kudos stands quartz sand filled with a granite top plate which was my original floorstanders plinth I had made and then I got the domed badge from Canada

Funny u should say that I was trying to explain to a mate who has been in the business for 30 years last night and I was saying they just seem so powerful in everything they do, but I was saying im not listening loudly and he said do u mean effortless and that was it, I am hearing so many things I have never heard in the tracks now than before and the accuracy detail but caturalism is astonishing!
Its the first time I have had a soundstage that is as tall as me.
My mate has some micro utopias and he is about to buy the dodgy cheek jmlabs now to compare and I think he is gunna scrap his whole system get a benchmark hdr and sit down quite content indeed!

Yeah, same here on the sound stage too... If you close your eyes in my room it's hard to say where the speakers are ... The sound stage puts things in places between the speakers so well and even out to the left and right ... They sound like the soundstage is almost 180 degrees in front of me, and the surrounding walls don't sound like they are even there ... It's quite remarkable in comparison to the previous passives

I said exactly the same thing to my mate last night whilst listening to Fleetwood Mac, I love them!

Hi Dan And welcome, the only actives i remember hearing were at Scalford i think they were Meridians with a EMT TT front end playing Julie London "Cry Me A River", that sounded very good with little effort as you say.
