Audio Note amps

I have the most difficult speakers in the world to match a suitable amp to,they really only require 1 watt to go loud,Lowther PM2A in an Oris 200 horn and a 15" bass driver in an Oris 150 horn, having listened to all the known suspects 45's,2A3,6B4G in various guises I decided I needed the 300B for it's bass control and grip which the valve seems to provide with my speakers.
Hence I've ordered a Conqueror Silver low gain,having liked the Conquests.
Any views on Peter Q's amps,they again seem to polarise opinions :).
Only positive comments allowed as they're on order ;).
Currently using Keiths AudioProjekte CA10 it'll be an interesting comparison,10w solid state against an 8w SET.

I wouldn't characterise the 300b as being noticeable for it's bass control and grip,at least compared to the others you mention.I've heard a 45 PP that was very good in that respect,at least to my ears.Have you considered this?-

I daresay the AN will be very good though,at a price!

Another valve I've heard that was very good was the 801A.I recall that doing good bass.

All the AN amps i've heard have been very good, but at a price as you say Ali
That is the main gripe with AN gear i would think, you should have bought a pair of Zero amps and matching pre from me they are good value for money

I'm pretty sure all the transfomers are wound in house, keeping good quility control

I would agree with that... being the owner of a 300B amp that I bought of Ali! :)

Had a Yamamoto AO8s for awhile with some VAIC 45 valves,wonderful sounding amp,but just lacked that bass "thwack",1.8w only although it sounded sublime in the mids just lacked something in the bass.
I would love to try a PX25.The 801a also was a consideration,though never had an opportunity to hear:(
I have some Emission Lab 300B XLS valves needing a good home, had a quote for an Emission Lab 5U4G for the amp,202 euro :eek:

This was the problem had some Allnic A5000's,these had the bass grip but too.... powerful at 25w.

a little of the audio note topic but if someone is looking for a 300b amp cloney audio in dublin ireland is selling a wavec 300b with engraved base western electric +a spare set of engraved base western electric300b for a customer with an illness. maybe of help to someone that was 2 weeks ago .

Hi Rob

A friend of mine had the Concueror amps a few years back but became disatisfied with them and bought a pair of Diavolo's with Border patrol MB psu's to use with his Horning Agathon's .

He now has gone back to using Audionote P4 Balanced mono's and describes them as the best he has ever used .

He also told me the Concueror's can be transformed by fitting BP psu's .

The PX25 was always an amp I wanted to hear in the Art Audio range.
Looked at the PSU from BP,almost got one ages ago when I had an AI500.
Will wait and see if the Conqueror is a keeper just listening to the Audio Projekte,it's a mighty fine amp with my horns.
Had to trade my Allnic A5000's for the Conqueror as know one would buy them :(

Has anyone thought to ask Anthony TD for his advice?

I mean, his designs will have superior transformers (or not, as the case may be) and can be configured for whatever low power you want I reckon.

Got to be better than stuff made purely for excess profit, no matter how good they may be.

hi rob i will send you over the ecofan amp this week i am not sure i will be able to get the linestage for you but ill try .you can report back to everyone on your findings -i will put in 8 valves 6 of whichcost 99p each and 2 output valves £10. all transformers and chokes hand wound on ex western electric transformer winding machine.
we had a party for my dads 82 birthday yesterday and with ecofan + quad electrostat 57 sound was beautiful and this was outside all sharp auntys were all mellowed down by nice sound many thanks
