These are part of the structural bracing of the frame so I am interested in what you are replacing them with. Will your new stands brace the speakers along their entire length?

Yes the new stands will run the length of the panel .

The best retro fitted stands for Maggies that I have heard (or should that be not heard?) are those that form a tripod behind the speaker. This involves fixing the panel at the base and at a second point higher up the speaker, the higher the better. By having a strut run from the upper fixing point to the feet of the stand one forms a triangular brace which prevents much of the flexure that Maggies are prone to. I now have 1.7s and first heard them in the US with a design similar to the well known Mye stands. These stands gripped the 1.7s across the top of the panels and affixed to the base about 40cm from the bottom of the panel. They were excellent and significantly improved the bass and most other aspects of performance. Unfortunately, they were hugely expensive custom jobs and weighed a ton. Shame there isn't a bigger Maggie user base in the UK to stimulate a similar retrofit industry!

Yes it’s disappointing that magnepan don’t offer more support here in the U.K. , I’d certainly like to take them up on the home trail offer .
