Hi, I'm Dan from sunny Suffolk. Just saying hello as have been a long time lurker, finally signed up.

Bit of a hobbyist for restoring amps, which I've been doing for a fair while. I'm not an electronics genius, but know my way around a soldering iron (and more importantly, flux....) that and decoding service manuals.

Currently using a Quad 33/303 combo I've tweaked (it was a smoking mess when I got it, never seen a DBT glow brighter that the sun before), a lovely A&R A60 and my fathers old amp, an Akai 1010. Have an A400 I'm currently fixing (the old rear of the vol/balance pot is cracked so it's either a bit of an experiment with JB Weld and some HB pencil dust, or an Alps in going in there) and I'm going to re-cap/tweak it a teensie bit.

Anyhow, ta for having me.

Welcome to AoS Dan,

Plenty of Quad fans here, as well as repairer/refurbishers so you will be in good company. :) What is the rest of your gear, and what are your tastes in music?

Enjoy the Forum
Barry (a fellow Quad fan)

Thanks for the welcomes fellas :)

Yep, the Quad 33/303 combo is lovely - you'll possibly hate me but I did tweak the 33 ever so slightly (mainly just using the recommendations available to give it a teensie bit more pep at 16v). The sound on it has opened up a little bit more, but not taken away from the nice Quad sound.

I've got a modest set-up, nothing flash. Need to sort out some new (old) speakers (I've got a pair of Wharfedales my father put together back in 1978 that need re-foaming) but currently using a pair of Q-Acoustics 3020i's downstairs.

I've got my old Technics 1210 deck (one of a pair I don't think I could ever part with) that I upgraded about 15 years ago - litz tonearm wire, grounding modification etc with a VM95ML cart. I got them second hand many moons ago - the original owner had dropped something on both of the counterweights, snapping both tonearm centres. Instead of buying new ones, they'd poured superglue down onto them and through the gimbal, took a while to sort that.....

Music-wise I like pretty much everything, although nowadays I'm more into guitar-based stuff. Looking forward to Saturday to pop down my local for RSD.

Cheers again for the welcome :)
