Hi all,
My name's Rob, I'm a record collector from Yorkshire, England.
I mostly collect 78s and obscure epertoire-lead classical lps. My username is in tribute to the National Gramophonic society who's records I'm trying to get a run of! but I'm also heavily into electronic music and dj a bit here and there. I'm totally blind and yes that does mean I can't see your imogies! I use a screan reader called NVDA to access the net.
My setup is currently pretty basic, numark mixer (I need the channels!) (2 turntables, laptop and electric cylinder device)basic moniters though I really rate them! and currently 3 turntables, technics 1210GR which is my pride and joy, lenco gl75 in completely stock form and pro-ject debut which is pretty soon going to be sold off and replaced by a friend's Linn Axis, I also have a Rotel RP1500 which is actually pretty good!
I'm very interested in cartridges. My current favorite is a goldring g800 Super-E which, in my overly bright setup, just beats a shure v15 (iii) with original vn35MR stylus. The Goldring is the most smoove-sounding cartridge I have ever heard and I'm conciddering getting at least one of them redone. I also have an ortofon 2m blue which, in my system to my ears is way outclassed by both the above. My digital stuff is a starting point systems DAC3 which is based on the philips TDA1043 chip and was bought to mitigate what I saw as a bit of harshness with my Arcam DV88 cd/dvd player, which it does very well. I love analog and what I see as "warm" sounding kit, so feel free to recommend me stuff that's on the cheap side of silly!
Before I finish my little intro I'd like to point out how much fun experimenting with acoustic gramophones and soundboxes can be if you collect 78s. My early Meltrope soundbox and homemade external horned gramophone are also things I really cherrish, a good soundbox and BCN/thorne/fibre needles will cut that bacon-frying noise associated with 78s pretty much out of your life...
