Hello,
My involvement with the HiFi scene started building my sound system in the late 80's. I then was in my early 20's and liked to listen to classical music as well as Jazz from the early days which I love to listen to until today although my taste has widen a bit including some other music such as ethnic from various regions. I am a great admirer of the British sound school and I really like the sweet (maybe a little colored I admit) sound in the mid-range frequencies and not so much the clinically clean sound of a reference High end system if you understand what I mean... My first amp was a Musical Fidelity A1 from which I switched to an Audio Innovations 500 and finally ended up with a pre-power couple consisting of a Jeff Rowland - The Consonance (phono equipped) preamp and a Quad 405 power amp which I own since 1996 until now. My speaker boxes were Spendor Sp2, Spendor Sp1 and finally I obtained a pair of Sonus Faber Electa Amator (Mk1) which are standing on their original Sonus Faber stands and IMHO are pieces of art for the eye as well as for the ear (with the same taste in music as mine...). My first record Player was a basic Alphason platter-tonearm couple (I don't remember the model) equipped with a Goldring MM cartridge. Very soon I changed to an original Roksan Xerxes (which today suffers from the known sagging problem...) with an SME IV tonearm and a Van den Hull MC2 cartridge which I own until today. My digital source is a Teac VRDS 20 CD player. As many of us music lovers I had it standing useless for a while because of the obviously more comfortable solutions offered by the internet (.mp3, .flac, direct streaming etc) but every time I gave it a try to listen to one of my favorite vinyl records I realized that listening to this low sound quality offered on the internet was a demotion to my ears... Of course all this is nothing more than my personal opinion. No offense...
In the meantime and purely for sentimental reasons I very recently bought a Musical Fidelity A1 and a pair of Celestion Ditton 3 speakers, a couple which (again) in my opinion is a very sweet sounding when you listen to Jazz.
