I had some Townshends years ago when I had a pair of Martin Logan electrostats, they worked well with them albeit aside from a slight trade off in imaging.

Very speaker dependent, but I’ve found them very effective on some. I’ve had a set of Tannoys, currently have a set of Fostex T90A with L-pads which I’ve found very good, though I don’t need to use them with my current Bastanis OB’s.

If Coles 4001G in Spendor BC1 etc. and Celestion HF2000 in some related speakers can be considered supertweeters (above Celestion HF1300), I believe that they do add something positive.

System dependant and each to their own, but I have had Tannoy ST in my system for about 10 years and would not be without them.

Still have a set of Townshend, as others have said though, they do make a diffrence [for the better ] on some speakers.

I have some BatPure super-tweeters that I'm soon to sell. They cost $58 (US) and then I had to pay extra import duty on them. I put then in small boxes. They will come with leads and plugs. I used them with my 'LivingVoice' speakers. Young people tell me they can hear a difference but, being 72 yrs old, I cannot.

Given the expense of our hobby they really do offer a cheapish experiment.

I’ve used three types, Townsend, tannoy, Audiosmile, each very different.
It’s very dependent on speakers it’s partnered with, results can be spectacular, but too often I feel it’s hifi over heart as they brighten the image sometimes unnaturally. The best are those you can’t hear. Having tried a few I think your best off with speakers as nature (maker) intended.

Absolutely agree. My STs were terrible on a pair of living voice obx , but essential on my JBL , as it gives them air otherwise lacking.

I have seen the specifics for the Batpures. Can't remember the exact details, but I recall thinking they rolled in too low down and had insufficient sensitivity.

Generally, in my opinion supertweeters should roll in gently above say 18kHz and have a sensitivity near that of the main tweeter. One exception being speakers utilising Celestion HF1300 main tweeters, which cut off sharply at a bit over 13kHz, requiring the supertweeter to use a 'mirror image' slope going upwards..

I have the Townsend tweeters which are well designed and flexible, when used they increase sound stage height, make vocal parts clearer and sharpen the bass. The main issue as always is integration. Frustratingly you can have them setup where they sound great for most music but then bring attention to themselves for the rest. They are a mix bag of characteristics but I still enjoy playing with them and hope one day to find a way to successfully integrate them.

It amazes me that people spend such exorbitant prices for supertweeters. At the frequencies used, you're not looking for 'nice tonal characteristics'. As long as the sensitivity is about right for the intended application, a set of for instance HiVi planar tweeters from China will do the job just fine for around thirty quid, just roll them in on a single capacitor. I've often found 0.47uF or 0.22uF or even as small as 0.1uF seems to work well depending on impedance. You can use steeper filter slopes, but I've tried this and not gained any benefit. If you can clearly hear output, then the capacitor value is too great.
