How is your amp coping, left on in this hot weather ?

I'm using my own 7297 based amplifier at the moment and it doesn't produce much heat (like, none). At least one guy also uses it instead of any of his Firstwatt amps during summer that lives somewhere hot. It's not really too abnormal for people to have summer amps.

Biggest problem is power cuts with the electrical storms. Had two yesterday for very short period but amp will not like it so unplugged!

The weather went cool again so I put my winter amp back in. As soon as I did that, back to heatwave.

Amps (even the tube ones) are actually coping surprisingly well . . . subwoofers however, could fry a blooming egg on the headsinks/radiator fins on the back panel. Thought Class D amps were supposed to run cool!?!?

It's me that bloody suffers when I put my 845 monos on, the amp are perfectly happy. Only using my summer amp at the moment (Rotel RB06).

I rigged up a large USB fan over the top of the casework that runs from a mains powered USB PSU. Job done.

Quad 303 running here, cool and calm! Changed from a TPA3116 that also runs cool a few days ago. I daren't run my Radford STA25 III unless I want to fry! Incidentally, my Quad 405-2 runs a bit warm.

At lowish outputs a 303 runs pretty cool, my 405-2 pretty warm.

Big heatsinked Meridian poweramp, never changes from “slightly warm to the touch” no matter the weather.
Unlike the 300B SET amp I had, which in Summer was like a 3 bar electric heater.

How hot your SS amp runs depends on the bias. My (modified) 405-1 runs cooler than my 405-2s.

All my power amps run very hot regardless of the weather. One will put you in hospital if you touch it in the wrong place firmly for more than a second...

True, about the bias, an unusual situation with the Quad 303, also depends upon how much voltage is dropped by the series transistor in the regulated power supply. My oldest 303, a very early one, drops less than later ones that I have, hence heatsink runs cooler, even though bias is adjusted the same on all four 303's that I have.

I bought my 405 new about 1976, converted to -2 using the Quad 405-2 kit about 1987, did notice that it ran much warmer when ticking over.

Try a Krell KSA100 if you want hot. 650 watts being blown up and out by two fans. In the winter it's lovely, you can stand over it to get a warm whilst making your next music selection.

When it's 30c outside, it's not so pleasant. Especially if, like me, you like to keep the windows shut whilst listening to improve the noise floor.

Due to my power amp being on the lower shelf of a big heavy coffee table with maybe six inches of upper clearance I thought it better to rig up the fan. I have arranged it so that the fan blows air down into the casing rather than draw it up and out. On a hot day I have to have the windows open otherwise the room is way too warm but I'm looking forward to heating the room in winter.
