I've noticed over the last 6 months or so i get very tired easy.I do work more hours than i should but have to, i don't think this is the key.I tend to get tired if i heavily think about problems usually hi-fi related, just gives me brain ache & end up gonna bed early..I certainly have zero intrest in things i used to..Doctor says i'm fit so it's not an health issue. I used to stay up all night at one bit on the computer or listerning hifi boozing for england you name it, i used to skip nights in bed at times but thats all gone...I don't even go out drinking anymore! Is this what happens when you start age'in, i'm only in my early 40's for god sake or do you think i'm pure & simply a nutter that needs help.

I think I'm the other way round - when not drinking and smoking I seem to not get tired at all - give a sniff of the booze and I feel sleepy!

Marco
13-07-2010, 16:48
Lol, Alex, I'm the same with alcohol!

Andre, I think it's natural to get more tired doing things than you used to when you were younger, so you're just normal (or as 'normal' as a big daftee like you can be :eyebrows:).

I'm the same age as you and and can get through what I need to do on a daily basis without too much problem. I have plenty of energy, generally, as long as I get the uninterrupted eight hours of sleep per day that I need to function properly. Yes, I like my sleep! I've always been the same, though, in that respect, even when I was younger :)

A healthy diet is also important, as medical evidence shows that lethargy is directly linked (amongst other things) to the type of food you eat. Drinking plenty of water and eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables is the key!

I think a big part too in feeling unduly tired or not is being happy (fulfilled and contented) with your life, which, unfortunately dude, I'm not sure you are. However, as we've said before elsewhere, there's always someone else worse off than you, so count your blessings that you have your good health (confirmed by your doctor), as there is nothing more important in life than that!!

Marco.

Alex, I thought you'd given up smoking - for your little girl's sake as much as anything else..... maybe you're hyper-active and thrive on energy and "doing" things...

Marco, I could write reams about your first sentance above... Let's just say that I still don't know if I'm going to have any "contracted" hours in September or whether I'll just have to wait on a phone-call at 7-45am every morning to see if I'm needed and for how long in the day... I find it stressful and my wife hates it as she can't reliably plan our days - we both hate massive routine changes...

I do count my blessings, but it's so easy to fall into a stupor, causing the old depression to set in...

Once you pass 28 yrs old, I found my mates and I couldn't eat like horses without the tummy expanding quickly. I then found that passing 40, aches and pains that could be slept off stayed for far longer. Now I'm almost mid-fifties, I worry about my sight, hearing, knees, back-ache and any twinge going. Apparently, if you pass 60 everything starts to fall apart, so I'm told..

Ah well..

Same here Andre', i come home shattered aching head to toe and loose interset in everything at times, getting old is a bastard to say the least

I've always been an idle sod ('born tired' was my mother's description) so ageing hasn't slowed me down much. I do need less sleep though; I can get by on six hours whereas ten hours was my norm when I was a lad.

I have given up smoking - well, I should say I don't currently smoke - although I have had the odd one, I would never want to go back to being ruled by the habit - plus the money! over £6 a pack! But, once a smoker, always a smoker I fear, so I do worry that if I had a true disaster in my life I would reach for the fags as a crutch...

Have you had a diabetes check Andre?

I would recommend that you ask to have a blood test André.

May I also ask if you find yourself often feeling cold? You might have an underactive thyroid.

You've made me feel a tiny bit better. At forty I still had the energy and staying power I had when I was twenty. At sixty I got tired and achey but that is a lot to do with my BP medication and I still do more than I (perhaps) should.

If you're not on any medication which slows you down as a side effect, you should see your Doc about the problem. You're too young to be troubled by this. IMO

Lol - cheers, dude.... I know that now from Googling it, as I got bored waiting for a user of 'Champix' (although I know you're not one) to explain what the hell it was!

I'm 41 now and as I've got older I've found that I need less and less sleep. Five years ago less than eight hours sleep and I was struggling to stay awake. Now I get by on about six.

I tested positive for diabetes in 2008 yet I've never had any symptoms but then my diabetes is still only very slight, just over the newer lowered threshold.

You'll be lucky if you get that much sleep, uninterrupted, Steve, what with doing combined afternoon school runs and night shifts in your taxi every day..... ;)

Maybe on your days off?

I still need my 8 hours of uninterrupted kip to function properly. I needed it as a teenager, and still need it now. The good thing is, if I have a late night and get less than that, I can simply have a wee nap in the afternoon in between jobs (often falling asleep on the sofa while listening to music), to catch up on my zeds.

Oh, the joys of being your own boss and working from home! :)

I know that you catch 'power naps' sometimes, too.

You know that you're getting older when every body movement is accompanied by some sort of involuntary "oooff" sound.

Marco
14-07-2010, 15:03
Mine are accompanied by a 'phut' sound, usually when a wee 'pump-ette' escapes!

When i get up out of my seat to change a record over i seem to have developed a neanderthal gait, you know bent over and shuffling towards my deck.
Thats ageing right?

It was my 45th on saturday and i had a bit of a party at a friends house, a sort of back to summer of 93 night. Now i want to get another Technics and start mixing again.
Im realizing today that thats a MID LIFE CRISIS!!!
Hopefully ill feel better in the morning.

Sorry to hear than. Can you control it with diet alone?
