It's pobably the "only" mech mate now. I believe that many others now use DVD drives, but could be wrong..

Andre

Tony Moore built his CD player from a kit.
It might even be this kit http://www.theaudioeagle.com/columns/column07.html

Then there's this http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/tentlabs/player.html

There is only 1, I know of and you need to get it from China. Please dont let that put you off though. It is from Hi Fi Diy .net (http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fhifidiy.net%2F&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&history_state0=). They not only produce some very interesting kits, they also have a large forum to back everything up, provide instructions and tips for "pimping". Obviously it is in Chinese, but google helps a lot. :)

They also use high end components for their projects (Plitron transformers, Dale resistors etc.), real ones too! As they often show the invoice for purchasing them.

Anyway, here is the Pro2 transport kit (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop.hifidiy.net/product/242.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhhgs_JW0H6G_a7ed5RRmijs80DAqw).

Bear in mind it is designed for 220V operation and therefore it would be worthwhile getting a 240-220 volt step down transformer. Price is approx £200, but you need to source the mech from somewhere.

They also do some very nice DAC's as well. This one (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http://shop.hifidiy.net/product/199.htm&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhhDZTnk-SG20MeIINJ7R_kiz4uNjw) is approx £125 including case, transformer and headphone amp board.
