I was intrigued as to what Littlewoods call HiFi, so clicked on the google link underneath the main forum banner, and got this http://www.littlewoods.com/electricals/hi-fi-radios/hi-fi-systems/e/b/4761.end?aff=google&affsrc=content&cm_mmc=Google-_-Content-_-Hi-Fi-_-hi-fi%20reviews

All I can say is

Unfortunately thats what your average basic punter sees as being Hifi. If you just want to listen to your i-Pod or a cd then this type of equipment meets most people's requirements. :( Anything beyond this is seen as specialised equipment for the audiophile and as a result people are just not interested in anything more sophisticated than the 'plug in and play' plastic boxes :mental:

Hmmm, not even Lo Fi.

I remember when catalogues sold decent separates from Pioneer and Marantz and you could at least build a reasonably competent system.

Just to add to the irony, has any one noticed that eBay have removed the '& hi-fi' bit from the Home Audio heading in the Consumer Electronics section?

Just let the music rule. THAT'S the most important thing, whatever we play it through... ;)

Frankly I don't care what audio systems people use, any more than I care what cars they drive, what TVs they watch (and how they're set up), where they go for their holidays, or even what they eat or drink. Each to their own.

Good quality audio gear is still available for those who choose to seek it out. And it doesn't have to look as though it's emerged from Frankenstein's laboratory: B&O make some stylish gear that sounds good - no longer "Habitat Hi-Fi"; though was it ever?

Dave, is that you fraternising with the 'enemy' again over cheese straws and cheap Chianti? ;)

What that sad old duffer and his cronies think is of less than zero importance.

Marco.
