EAR 8L6 50W/Ch on ebay

I found this integrated amp from EAR, I have been following Tim's design for many years but never bought one. It is a little bit expensive but I won't need a preamp, it would make a nice system alongside my 401/SME3009 and Tannoy Devons. I am aware that I'll need a step-up transformer but it is fine with me.

I have learned a lot regarding step-up transformers on this forum and I am aware what to look for when looking for one:lol:.

Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I am a great fan of the 8L6. I had one for many years using it as an integrated with an 834p phono stage. I then added the 864 pre-amp and used the power amp section of the 8L6.
It also worked very well with my Hovland.
IMHO this is a very versatile amp with the most amazing aftersales backup.

BTW you will also need a phono stage with the 8L6.
And yes I agree that ebay listing is somewhat overpriced

The seller is just down the road from me, a place near Bungay called Emporium Shed. He has some seriously top notch gear in a massive warehouse. He sells a lot of high end stuff to Chinese and Japanese clients, as well as having some very unusual Hi-Fi laying about - things one has heard of but never seen, oddities from the Hi-Fi world that seem to become impossible to find.

I've bought a few things from him over the years, including a "mystery subwoofer" about 4 years ago, which turned out to be an astonishing piece of kit.

Unbelievable, I think you are not far from the East Anglia Transport Museum, I visited it too many years ago. Emporiumhifi - their ebay name - has a lot of hard to find stuff mostly overpriced, e.g. Leak Stereo 20 £2.000. They barely answer questions, just very briefly and not politely. I posted the question about the 8L6 because I think that the price is too high but I may be wrong.

I guess they get a load of questions on eBay, maybe they just deal with them quickly without emotion.

I would be weary of buying anything from Emporium. They are off-hand when it comes answering questions, and some of their gear is not quite as described. I bought a TT from them, that on receipt had obviously been "modified" and also needed a minor repair.
