It’s twenty seven and a half degrees here today as I find myself writing about Lisa Ekdahl, a young blonde Swedish singer with a beautiful charm of rustic looks and a quaint, girlie voice. The CD in question is, ‘Give me that slow knowing smile’ and is one of Lisa’s albums that is sung in English.
I find that the album is a bit of a surprise as I was lead to believe that she is a jazz singer. Not so. This is very charming female vocal of some quality. The lyrics are sensitive and intellectual with a very female quality as one would expect. All instruments are played and not programmed and there is a fair level of skill on display. The recording quality is quite simply stunning. I am very tempted to say that this must be an analogue production but I do not know that for certain.
There are two stand out tracks for me and they are the last two. The track ‘Sing’ sounds to me, very reminiscent of Nick Drake with a beautiful quality to the acoustic guitar and a fabulous ambience to the studio whilst the track ‘Beautiful Boy’ has a very early teen feel to it You know the kind of thing, you are fourteen again and discovering lots of new delights within your life and the opposite sex.
You have this album already…! Brilliant. Why not share your views with us.
You don’t have this CD but you’re a female vocal fan…! Buy it.
