First off, i don't really want to sell this amp...
secondly, who ever buys it must agree that when(if) they come to sell it, i get first dibs
I am selling this amp for a few reasons, mostly that i want a holiday, but also i dont think my office system (that i mainly use for spotify) deserves such a amp. also if im not getting much real hifi use out of it ... then someone else should.
if i thought hannah would let me have it back in the lounge, and i had the time of day to find speakers that would suit my lounge ... and hannah... then i would keep it ... but as it stands, the actives adams tick all the boxes ... including hannahs!
im looking for £1600
here are some piccys

Hamish mate I think you are mad doing this :mental:I would buy it in a hart beat but I can't. If I owned it you would have to take it from my cold dead hands. Oh yes, see the if the new owner comes to sell it I get first dibs idea... worthless unless you get that in writing otherwise forget it, I talk from experience here.
Last time I lost my job I sold my Eminent Tech arm to a guy, who I considered a friend, he was at my wedding and he agreed to sell it back to me if he ever sold it. Did he ? like heck he did....sod.
I am not trying to give you a hard time, just make you think about this again.... that's all.
Don't sell it.
Regards D S D L
Don't do this, Hamish. It's a bad move! :(

I just have to get my priorities right Neil, as I said I need a holiday! I want a week with Hannah without thoughts of business, or anything else... Just sat on a beach with a book and a beer...
I don't really want to sell it, but I'm not getting the most out of it by a good margin... And it's not fair to waste it I don't think...
If I regret it, well, il just have to live with it... Push comes to shuv il nag Anthony into building me a new one....

Also, I'm really winning with these actives! They just work for me... It would be so much to put this back into my main system, it ain't gonna happen...
And anyway, the bit of kit I'm most attached to is the pre amp, and that is staying.... Ita the bit I put the most into and it's the bit I'm keeping!

You've cleaned it up nicely Hamish and not a scratch on the acrylic front panel (easily done.)
The price is bang on the money and includes (I presume) 4 x Cryo treated Svetlana KT88s, 4 x Jan Philips 6SN7s (rare) and 2 x Mullard GZ34s (getting rarer.)
I agree with Mike though, you'll regret this....
Anyway, they say that valve amps like this can't really do bass.... :D :D :D
Hi Hamish,
I also share Neil and Mike's concerns about you selling your amp (as it is unique), *but* clearly you've thought about this long and hard and have come to a considered decision.
No-one else here can appreciate your personal situation with Hannah, so do what you think is right. A holiday sounds like something you both need, and so what's good for your relationship should always come before what others might think is best for your system.....
Also, this:
Also, I'm really winning with these actives! They just work for me...
...I feel is quite significant and not quite being grasped by others here. If the Adams are the ones, then go for it and enjoy them.
Anyway, I wish you well and hope you've made the right decision
Marco.
Totally agree with Marco wise words
I also agree with Marco; only Hamish can decide what his priorities are, and if he can't afford to keep the amp and have a holiday, something's got to give.

Plus as he's just explained, the Adams actives are serious pieces of kit. They aint no Aye Dee Emm Bloody Nines!
But as we know, speakers only contribute about 10% to the quality of a system's sound.
Hamish..
Here's the deal
An IOU payable Jan 30th 2011, a bag of sand, a case of wine, a cd of seaside sound effects, a certificate guaranteeing first option to buy back, fckin 'ell..what else?
Oh I know.. A Goblin Teasmaid.
Jesus...of all the times you offer up the amp and the Linn DS.

First off:
I revised that view to say that I was exaggerating a tad :o
It's more like 5%. :p
Secondly: The Adams are actives which means they are speakers AND amps.
Thirdly, Meester Walker: Tannoy Canterburys are more than speakers, they are awesome beasts. Having said that, I'd sort out my front end, control and a decent amp before I knew they'd have a chance of get my spine a tinglin', but that done yo is in nirvana and that last 5 or 10% begins to count big time!

you have a combination that works for you in that room now, thats all that matters, the amp will go to a new owner who will hopefully have the right enviroment to get the best out of it.

No where to find the cash?
Well... there's the problem. I have the cash alright, just other priorities get in the way !!
Between now and Jan I have to pay out £4 grand for costs at university for my two kids. So that explains why we are off to Anglesey this morning, and not St.Kitts! Still looking forward to a few meals at The White Eagle - highly recommend it if anyone finds themselves that way.
For us, we are hanging onto the thought of really good holidays next year... And I think it's really important, and feel you are doing the right thing.
Good luck with the sale ..
does this mean what i have now will get better then?
It will certainly sound better, if you make the right choice; if you make the wrong choice it may sound much worse! Home demonstration is essential for speakers if you're buying anything other than the most basic model.

So .... .... Anyone wanna buy an amp?
Hamish, my current system's crying out for an amp such as yours, but even more than the others I can't look at anything much over £50 and that includes a Quad 303 :(
I'd also remind some of you that active speakers have the potential to annihilate any passive speakers except the most efficient large cone models such as large Tannoys, JBL's and Klipschorns typing from memory. Adam are up there with the very, very best, if a little "sparkly" compared to ADM9.1's apparently (FFS Mr Toy, even Andrew Everard gave the ADM's a positive review in Gramaphone magazine this month, even though he's a naim freak I understand).
Good luck Hamish. I hope you can find a sensitive and caring buyer for the amp. it is Summer though and people such as yourself tend to be sinking their dosh into holidays, rather than wonderful sounding room-heaters..
Yes actives can be pretty good
The Vinyl Adventure

Perhaps I like sparkly? You say that about these and marco says it about the oc9 ... Both sound spot on neutral to me? Make sence?
Perhaps I like sparkly?
Undoubtedly. You looked simply devine, dahling, in that little Gaultier off-the-shoulder number on Tuesday
Marco.
I'm talking small differences - typical old Tannoy DC's "tinkle..." :ner:
I like the OC9 too and also have fond memories of the DL103C, even though it's rather the opposite. The MC30 Super isn't quite as well controlled, but in my system and in both the Dual and 125/R200 it has a pleasant, lively quality with impeccable tracking.

Take the holiday if you can :)
Money can buy another amplifier in the future, no amount of money can buy back time.
If you can try to have a holiday without selling your stuff.
I noticed on a photo forum you are shooting a wedding soon.
How about getting into honeymoon photography, ( Dont laugh too much :) )
A free paid for 'holiday' and your creative and arty honeymoon photos will be on the bride and grooms mantelpiece long after the traditional wedding photos have been put away in a cupboard.
A friend of a friend has some fantastic professional honeymoon photos, really creative with some wacky wide angle low level shots on a beach looking up with two palm trees as the background behind the couple, perfect photo with perfect fill flash.
Another shot with sun setting over the sea just to the side of the couple on the beach with perfect fill flash lighting up the couple and lovely sunset colours and they look so happy and relaxed, much better than the wedding day photos.
A bit of thread drift but it it happens...

Me and Hannah have spoken of moving somewhere hot and sunny, and that, with wedding photography for people who get married abroad was something we thought about!
Would be lovely to be able to travel abroad to do it, but doing it as a career over in places seemed very difficult to get into due to the low cost of local photographers... In the Dominican republic we saw costs of local photographers and they were cheap... And in Kenya I met a chap called kenzo who was a wedding photographer there... He was doing well enough to support his family but it still was a small income ... Id love to do it, but I certainly wouldn't want to take work from locals when the money they earn is low already... ...
You should move to Suffolk. The temperatures here over the last few days have been around 30 degrees C and humid with it - Barry, you have my sympathies, I can't cope either..
Is it just me that thinks the idea of taking a photographer with you on a honeymoon is a bit, er, strange....:o

That would be weird :) that's not how it works though.
Sites like this:
http://www.photooneinc.com/pages/honeymoon_photography.php
Many found with google
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox&&sa=X&ei=Jk0_TNG6FIyTjAeyzpi5Bw&ved=0CBcQBSgA&q=honeymoon+photography&spell=1
The (fairly wealthy) people that I was doing some AV installation work for paid their wedding photographer to fly out towards the end of their honeymoon for a few hours photography.... Good work if you can get it I guess.
The pictures where of the quality you would expect to see in a double page spread in 'Hello' magazine etc, absolutely stunning really.
