A bit late with this.
Been a odd day.. Wet in morning then dry, and finally damp in evening. Lol
Sounds like a day in the life of a window cleaner
Forecast here is rain all week. Truly crap weather for July.
not nice here.. been blowing all night and still going.. extended bursts of 40mph stuff.. cold for july too at about 11c
Bright and sunny here today. Just about to hang the washing out, that'll change it.

After raining all night (and most of the week) the sun is making an appearance. Won't last though :( And it's windy as buggery. Such is the cooperative nature of British weather, I should go out and buy a kite. That'll kill the wind ;)

Wet and windy, typical Greenock Fair weather.
Nothing crap about the weather here. A little windy to start, but by 11:00 it stopped with blue skys and fluffy white clouds, and a very comfortable 25degC.

Yes a bit windy here and still is, about 34mph. Been fairly normal if a tad warmer than average so far for July. Been fairly good so far this July, could do with some more rain. Even been out twice with the camera, got some nice moody images. Much prefer this weather to that hot cloudless weather we had in May and some of June. Forecast is little rain, maybe a few showers tomorrow and Wednesday. I noticed in the barley fields it is only about 18inches to 2 foot high.
To be nearer 16c tomorrow here so a bit better

Trade you. We've got humid, 36degC, no rain in site. On top of that the city just instituted a ban on heavy water usage. No watering the lawn, no filling pools.
Warm and dry here, but very windy. Still managed to spend most of the day gardening though.

:D That used to happen to me all the time. Also, polishing my bike always brought on a downpour.

Del's official last day 'in work' was yesterday [she's of course been working from home for the last 3 months, in between Prosecco cocktails], before the summer hols, so that her off now for six weeks!:yay:

It's been four months now since lockdown - if you've still plenty to do, either your house is very tumbledown or you're very lazy :ner:
I think we may be going to South of France at end of August. Not decided how to get there, I want to drive there. 18 hour drive though.

Lol - just LOADS to do, (mainly in the garden and grounds), which are pretty big! We're making fundamental changes to becoming self-sufficient, so mostly to do with clearing spaces for raised beds to facilitate vegetable planting. Plus, there was possibly too many breaks for lunch and drinkies!:o:D
If you get to go, enjoy France. Personally, I wouldn't entertain going abroad again until things get more back to normal. It's chaotic enough during the tourist season in normal times...

Where we go (Cap d'Agde) isn't at all touristy, apart from French folk - in all the times we've been there, I've never come across a single Brit. Apart from the odd meal out we cook at home and buy from the local boulangerie, boucherie, and Lidl. You would be so proud of us :) We do drive around a bit, but don't really mingle as our French is pretty basic.

Just checked the local weather station and we only had about 2mm since midnight, which is surprising, yesterday we had about 5mm, so not much really but some more is forecast, good for the garden and I don't need to water it for a while.

Yes most of the heavier rain went south of here. Just had some heavy drizzle so everything soaked, now about 4mm today maybe 5mm, waterbutts are all full up up, so should be ok for the rest of July.

Lol - nice one. I was thinking more in terms of the queues for ferries and customs at Calais, and on the approaching motorways (as we'd always be travelling to France by car) and how the social distancing bollocks would affect that, as it's bad enough during the busy tourist season in July/Aug in normal times. Plus how the whole thing would affect hotel bookings, eating out and the shopping experience, etc, so concluded that for this year it would be more bother than it was worth!:)
We've done self-catering before, and loved it, but not camping. That can defo be fun, but it's not really our thing. We rented a cottage in France and shared it with friends, which was great fun, but only used it as somewhere to sleep and make breakfast, as the rest of the time we were out. Del, quite rightly, takes the view that she cooks for the rest of the year, so when on holiday she likes someone else to do it for her, and be spoiled!
Plus, as you know, we're both major foodies, so exploring nice little family-run French restaurants and sampling the local cuisine is a massive part of our holiday enjoyment. Del's also not the type to be happy sitting around the same place doing nothing (camp site or whatever) - she needs to be 'kept entertained', so likes me taking the car out and exploring the local towns and villages, and doing some sightseeing.
Plus also shopping.... When we take the car to France, it's not just to enable us to explore the area we're in, but to buy stuff to take home, primarily food and drink! But also, for Del, clothes. She gets lots of clothes in France, as she's very petite (like many French women) and so the 'cut' and style of the clothes in France (particularly dresses, which she wears most), really suit her, and so she loves going round some of the 'posh' independent ladies boutiques/lingerie shops and picking out stuff for me to buy her!:eek::D
No, I love spoiling her, as he frequently spoils me! And she couldn't shop there on her own, as she doesn't speak French. Plus we often see nice things for the house when going round some of the lovely local markets, or in some of the towns we visit. In effect therefore, our holidays to France are as much about shopping trips as anything else, so with what's going on now with social distancing, etc, I doubt the shopping or eating out experience would be the same as it was before, so that's a big reason why we won't be going abroad this year [and flying anywhere would be even worse].
So no, we'll happily slum it this summer in sunny Wales!:cool:

Looks lovely, wish mine was like that. Could get some more rain later and tomorrow.
Feels quite cool today only about 15C, no sun which is unusual.
Sky has gone very dark and birds have gone quiet - bit of heavy rain on the way (time to start cooking :))
We've had a couple of showers here, and because of the rain a boot-sale was cancelled.
But to compensate the local eateries and restaurants have just opened up - so enjoyed a baked potato with tuna mayonnaise and side salad for lunch.
Very wet here at mo but on a better note the fields are growing nice fresh n bit drier weather on the way from weekend. Hopefully manage to get sheep clipped on saturday although dunno what we gonna do with the wool as prices are just a pisstake at mo. Lot of farmers burning their wool or using it in gateways cant be good for wool market.

I watched a farming programme last week where the guy was saying that wool prices don't even cover the wages for the blokes shearing. That is indeed a pisstake :( I suppose it could be used to insulate farmhouse roof

Dull here but not raining. Almost an autumnal feeing to the past couple of days.
Drizzling down constantly, just like yesterday - ideal type of rain for the garden! And it feels and smells lovely and fresh outside, at only 14C. Indoors I have 18.5C, with (strangely) 80% humidity, which it doesn't feel like at all! It's certainly not sticky:nono:
Tomorrow is set to be nicer, and it gets gradually warmer over the weekend, with a high of 21C predicted for Sunday, so plenty warm enough for some al fresco dining - and which I've been missing recently!!:cool:
TBH, as long as the temp hovers around the mid-20s, and goes no higher than 27/28C, I'm happy. You can keep yer 30C+ shite!! :exactly:

Just returned from our afternoon walk of around three miles, through some lovely countryside with lots of bees collecting from the myriad wild flowers. Cloudy with a hint of moisture in the strong breeze. Around the 18 degree mark and humid so feeling quite comfortable. :)

As predicted, it's a lovely sunny, dry evening here, with hardly a cloud in the sky, and pleasantly warm too, at 19C, so we'll be taking advantage of that and dining this evening al fresco - probably open up an nice bottle of bubbly, too! :cheers:

BBQ is lit, and beautiful piece of 30-day aged ribeye (with lovely marbling on it) has been marinating in herbs and garlic since 9am, so will be enjoying that soon. Just preparing the wine now - not sure whether to go with a Rioja Gran Reserva or a Haut-Medoc... Decisions, decisions!!:hmm::D

Been a scorcher all day... Just back from Chester where at one point it hit 24C. Had a gorgeous lunch at 1539 (will post pics later on the food thread), done some shopping in town, where it was pretty busy - lots of folk milling around, which was nice to see, plus also not too many shops closed down.
Then popped to the garden centre on the way back and got some nice plants for the front of the house and some night lights for our backyard eating area, as it's nice to chill there, even when it gets dark, and enjoy a glass or two of vino:)
Anyway, it was really great getting out again and seeing something different from the same four walls and garden for the last 4 months, which drives you bloody bonkers!:cool:

My view is that BBC Weather (as seen on my phone) is a bag of shite. I look at it every morning, and I really don't know why I bother. Saturday I was working outside from 8.30 till 5pm, and it rained non-stop all day, finally stopping at 4pm. All the while the BBC app was saying it is fine and dry :steam:
My tools spent Sunday out on the drive, drying out :( Only time they get it right is when they forecast rain

It's in between both here... Blue sky, but also a fair amount of cloud, sun coming through in patches, and currently 19C. Decent enough, but we've had nothing approaching proper summer weather since that mini heatwave in June!:)

Bright & breezy here. Need to do some tidying up in the garden but it's taken an hour for me to get round to putting my socks on.

yeah, we had a barable april, and a good may, june but not fab up here. one thing we aint short of water etc. grass has been fine all year.
humidity is back at 93% and even when dry its in 70's. about 15c

The crap weather today has been very localised - Mrs. P says it was raining until about 3pm in Chorley, while it stayed dry and sunny all day from 9am where I was working, only 7 miles away.

Oh y'know, bit of this, bit of that, duckin' and divin', bobbin' and weavin'... so busy lately I'm meeting myself coming back, just trying to keep up with workload. It's manic at the moment. Working 6 full days a week. Get on top of it in a couple of weeks, then I'm giving myself a week off (by order of Mrs. P), after which 2 day weekends will be resumed :)

Glad you got out, Roy. Which shops did you go into, and were there no measures in place to attempt to enforce the mask-wearing rule? Just curious to know how the non-wearers were allowed entry to the shops in question, or were they challenged at all by anyone - even other customers?:)

It's a local parade of shops that once had the usual butchers / bakers / greengrocers but over time the 'normal' shops have moved out and been replaced by things like a tanning salon, dog grooming parlour, funeral directors amongst others & a couple of scruffy 'supermarkets' (I use the term loosely) which really aren't worth looking round. Other than these there's a few takeaways & an offy that don't open till later & the post office/newsagent I used. People were milling about & were in and out of the shops apparently unimpeded, of these only me and another elderly gentleman were wearing a mask.

Went into town today: most people were wearing face coverings when out and about, especially in shops. Disliked the need to queue outside the smaller shops, and even at places like M&S, there were strict instructions on using hand sanitiser, a 'one way system' and reduced 'pay here' stations. I can understand why on-line shopping has taken off so dramatically; traditional high street shopping is no longer the pleasant experience it once was. :rolleyes:
Had lunch at an Argentinian 'bistro' - a bit strange, as you could not serve yourself at the buffet, nor even look to see what was available: a waiter (wearing a face mask) brought you a menu describing what was available at the buffet, took your order, and eventually brought the food to your table. It wasn't the best of dining experiences.
The only pleasant shopping experience was only ever record shopping. Except in HMV.

Much of what you mention above is also the scene in Wrexham town centre, *but* as there's a thriving Polish and Portuguese community, there are a number of interesting food shops/restaurants and cafes, catering for their culinary requirements, and which are very good and suit my European palate, so that perks things up a bit!:) We also have a large shopping complex called Eagles Meadow, which houses a number of popular eateries and big-name stores, such as Debenhams, M&S, etc, as well as an Odeon cinema complex:

So do you not have anything like that going on where you are, in terms of immigrants from European countries having settling in the area and opened up some shops selling foods from their homeland? Seems strange if that's not the case, given that you're so near London... If so, that's where I'd be taking a look inside and seeing what different/unusual foodstuffs I could find. I love trying out new things!:)
Also, don't you have any old-school indoor markets, such as Macca mentioned earlier? I'd struggle to think of a single large town or city up here that doesn't have one. The other thing is, don't you drive? If it was me, and even if I lived in area where there were no interesting shops, I'd find out where there were some locally, say within a 5-10 mile radius, and drive to them, to get what I wanted. Far better that than just settling for any old shite, simply because it was on my doorstep.
Jeez, I've taken Del to Bradford, for lunch for a curry [around 95 miles away, so a 190-mile round trip], simply because the curry house in question was outstanding enough to warrant the effort!:D
So for me (within reason) distance is no object, in order to get something that I *really* want and consider is worth having. I do think that that in the UK, in general, folks can be a little insular and simply just stick to living on their doorstep, rather than being a bit more adventurous and exploring their surroundings, but I know you have health issues, so maybe that's what's 'grounding' you more and making you more predisposed to just staying locally and shopping online, which I understand:cool:

Whereas, I can take great pleasure in wine shopping, at a number of local independent wine merchants, farm shops, going round antique emporiums, charity shops (had some great finds there), garden centres, homeware/craft shops - you name it, and subsequently thoroughly enjoy the experience!:)
So it's not necessarily that the shopping experience now is no longer good anywhere; it's more your lack of interest in anything outside of a very limited number of things, which is restricting your ability to enjoy a pleasant shopping experience;)

I worked in Romford for a number of years so prefer shopping elsewhere. There's Upminster about the same distance away with a couple of pubs and some eateries we've used AND an independent record shop. Just up the road is Brentwood which has an attractive 'old school' High Street & some interesting shops. So all in all not too badly served & there's always London just a half an hour away which costs me nothing to get to with my sixty plus oyster.

As long as I'm 'alert' my Parkinson's shouldn't cause any issues but my partner also has her own set of health issues & is slightly more cautious than me which I respect but we're well overdue for a night out even if it is only down the British Legion (where they cook great chips lol).

Well, that doesn't seem too bad... Have you checked out any of the Polish supermarkets? IME, they sell some really nice stuff, and in particular have a great selection of beers!:cool:

All sounds good... I like the sound of Brentwood, in particular, which is probably where I'd be spending most of my time! Honestly mate, life's too short to 'vegitate' indoors, sitting on a sofa, mouse-clicking [such a drab, soulless existence], especially when you're still fit enough to get out and about, so my advice would be to take advantage of your free public transport and get out more into the big, wide world. I honestly can't see why you wouldn't enjoy the experience and find it beneficial:)

I should also say that since it's been permitted I've joined my partner's bubble and spend around 50% of my time round hers. I was visiting before but just sitting in the garden with her so I've not been housebound as such (and her house is on a third of an acre plot so plenty of room for social distancing).

You didn't strike me as someone shy of doing that before this pandemic, with all your holidays to exotic locations, so don't allow Covid to control your life now and spoil your fun, especially when it's on its way out. And IMO, although we'll have to learn to live with it for a long time to come, it will never be as bad as it was when it first hit us, simply because we've learned now how better to deal with it, and so in future will be able to minimise its presence and effect on the population:)

Funnily enough I did, albeit briefly, consider moving up to your neck of the woods when a bungalow next door to my cousin came up for sale in 2014. I'd just lost Mum & was feeling a little lost. No, but my wife has. She loved it, but that was when she was 30 years younger and single, and London was a very different place...

House prices don't really enter into the equation, you have to cut your cloth to be where you need to be. We had been thinking of selling up and moving to Brighton - Eldest daughter talking about moving there and starting family, youngest at Uni there. We enjoyed visiting there, very vibrant atmosphere around Kemptown and "the lanes".
However, recent "lockdown" has made it clear how lucky we are to live in a village (and in Suffolk :)). My main concern now is people looking to move out of London to continue working from home in a more pleasant atmosphere.

When I was living in Glasgow, in my parents house, in my early 20s and single, before I met Del, I booked a nice hotel for two weeks (on my own) in Bayswater, took the train down to London, then got a pass for unlimited travel on the tube, and had an absolute ball - sightseeing, eating out at nice restaurants/pubs in Covent Garden and discovering Chinatown, doing all sorts of fun things, some of them a bit 'naughty', as a young man does, although fortunately I didn't catch anything...:eyebrows:
And I'm quite sure now, if Del and I went for a HOLIDAY to London, I'd enjoy it just as much - as in many ways it's a great city! But for me, ONLY as a holiday destination, not to live, as it's fundamentally not somewhere I'd wish to be these days 24/7, 365. And that would apply to ANY major UK city, apart from Glasgow, simply because that was where I was born.
I simply don't 'do' crowds or stress... I like to relax, and be as far aways as possible from what these days is considered by the masses as 'normal life' - and so 'off-grid', far more than on it. To an extent, I *can* do that living in North Wales, as the vast majority of it is non-urban and often a bit old-fashioned/'behind the curve', which suits my lifestyle perfectly.
But if I were to choose where to live in Scotland, I still wouldn't *choose* Glasgow. It'd probably be somewhere like the Isle of Skye, and based on what I've said here many times, in terms of what's most important to me, I shouldn't need to repeat why that would be, and how, despite the fact that London has much to offer, it simply couldn't compare:)

Seriously though, no place is perfect, but if you can, I think it's beneficial living somewhere that *genuinely* suits your lifestyle and personality, as opposed to somewhere you've simply 'ended up' through circumstances - and most importantly of all, where you feel HAPPY:)
Quite simply, life's too short not to be happy!
As you well know, I was born in Glasgow, but through circumstances 'ended up' in North Wales. However, I can absolutely *assure* you, that if I didn't like it here and wasn't happy, I'd have moved to somewhere where I was (and so would Del), LONG ago. I wouldn't just stay and suffer it!:nono:
So in that respect, Wrexham defo isn't perfect, but largely suits our needs:
1) Del's a 10-min walk from the college where she works, so in decent weather can enjoy a gentle stroll into work, free from any stress-related travelling by car on very busy, overcrowded roads, or queues/delays on unpunctual (often filthy) public transport, and get good exercise and fresh air into the bargain.
Therefore, little money or time is spent on fuel or commuting, leaving more time for both of us to spend together, as well as more money to spend on the nice things WE like:)
2) The weather's generally clement, with rarely any extremes (not too hot, not too cold, and not too much rain).
3) There's a decent pub, which serves good food and beer, less than 5-mins walk from our house, and a lovely park, full of lots of different wildlife, within 10-mins walk.
4) We're 35/40 mins by car from a quiet and well-maintained beach, and 15 mins drive from the countryside.
5) There are more than adequate local amenities, with aside from anything else, every supermarket represented, except Waitrose (which is only 20 mins away in Chester).
6) Pretty much zero traffic congestion (no rush hour), and 2-hours ample free parking in the centre of town, for shopping, where there's also a great food market, selling local produce.
7) Both Liverpool and Manchester accessible by car within an hour. Buses into Chester are every 15 mins, from a bus stop across the road from our house. Regular, DIRECT train service into Liverpool, and also to Birmingham.
8) Two independent record shops, plus a proper 'old-school' hi-fi shop in the centre of town.
9) Numerous decent local eateries, serving various different types of cuisine. And you get a lot for your money, in terms of house prices.
10) Short walk to my dad's house, so I can make sure he's ok, do some chores for him and enjoy his company. Plus, good (fast) road links to major motorways, north and south.
I could go on, lol....;)

When I was a kid, my mum would send me to the shops for 6oz of corned beef (never a quarter or half pound, always 6oz), and a box of Atora. And I knew what we was in for. She just called it stew, and it was very basic, just potatoes, carrots, corned beef and dumplings. Best thing was, there was always a lot, as I always had a massive appetite (still do).
Amazing really that i grew into the fine figure I am today :)

I get it, I get it! Where you live is perfect for you.
But you still haven't explained why you hate 'that London' so much?
And I'm not talking about central & inner London, I'm referring to the many leafy & attractive suburbs that exist within the M25 that apparently have all the redeeming features of Wrexham you describe whilst a) not being in Wales & b) being within spitting distance of the third most visited city in the world.
